Help w/ my shoutcast server....Direct Streaming Question
Hey guys hows it going....first off im new to the fourms so I just wanted to say Hi and introduce myself.
now down to business....on my site I have a shoutcast server running....first off let me explain the purpose of my site. Unsigned Bands and Artists come, upload their music, get a webpage, bio, etc. Certain types of account holders get their music put into the "idmusik radio station" which is run by a shoutcast server. I dont have any problems with it and it works great. Here is my question. Alot of bands have been emailing me about streaming their files directly from their webpages. This is something I want to do, and I have talked to my coder about it but im thinking if its possible to link directly to a file on my shoutcast server, that would be the easiest solution. That way it could stream in lower quality than the actual mp3 and not take up a bunch of bandwidth. If its possible, please let me know how this can be done. I have asked a similar question in irc a few times and everyone tells me I must get something called LAME which apparently is an mp3 encoder....but if I can use the shoutcast server and link directly to the files to stream, that would be the best and easiest solution I think. Please let me know, Thanks, Shane www.idmusik.com |

![]() Please exercise patience. These forums are staffed by volunteers and there are times when responses may take hours or even days. *************************** Have you looked into using the DNAS for ondemand content? If you go this route, then the bitrate of the sources is the bitrate of the stream. |

No harm, no foul.
![]() Check out the SHOUTcast Technical Support Sticky post titled: SHOUTcast: Important Info & Answers to FAQs. READ ME! Scroll down a bit and look for the section titled: How to Setup On-Demand with SHOUTcast -> Sawg's Lame Rip-Off: On Demand Audio How to Setup On-Demand with SHOUTcast -> On Demand Audio (Radio Toolbox) The DNAS can serve out individual files to listeners by request through a link. Also note that a webserver can serve ondemand content too by using simple links. Both ways will serve the files in their source bitrate. To save some bandwidth, re-encode the files at a lower bitrate. |

FesterHead - is there a way to encode the files without doing them manually? I get alot of mp3s uploaded daily, and doing it manually its quite a bit of work. Is there a way they could be done easily once they are uploaded? Or just even streamed at a lowerbit rate? Through my shoutcast server, they are streamed in a much lower quality...thats why I was wondering if I could link directly to the file through Shoutcast?
Thanks bro, Shane |
