Hey guys hows it going....first off im new to the fourms so I just wanted to say Hi and introduce myself.
now down to business....on my site I have a shoutcast server running....first off let me explain the purpose of my site. Unsigned Bands and Artists come, upload their music, get a webpage, bio, etc. Certain types of account holders get their music put into the "idmusik radio station" which is run by a shoutcast server. I dont have any problems with it and it works great. Here is my question.
Alot of bands have been emailing me about streaming their files directly from their webpages. This is something I want to do, and I have talked to my coder about it but im thinking if its possible to link directly to a file on my shoutcast server, that would be the easiest solution. That way it could stream in lower quality than the actual mp3 and not take up a bunch of bandwidth. If its possible, please let me know how this can be done.
I have asked a similar question in irc a few times and everyone tells me I must get something called LAME which apparently is an mp3 encoder....but if I can use the shoutcast server and link directly to the files to stream, that would be the best and easiest solution I think.
Please let me know,
