Extended M3U - why?
I would like to know what is it good for - the extended version of M3U playlist? For me "basic" M3U playlist is quite enough - in fact I do prefer it fot its simplicity...

Say you load 10,000+ tracks into the playlist
and then save the playlist to an .m3u Next time you load the saved playlist Winamp doesn't need to read all the tags again to display the title formatting because the title formatting is already specified in the #extinf of the playlist file. |

The downside is: If you changed the tags on some of the songs you have to re-do the playlist.
[@imho] man [@imho] I had dreams about unit testing last night :-( [@sim`a] i have nightmares about syntax errors, whats your point |

Exact Audio Copy recently added extended info into the playlists it creates so now I'm forced to use it. I really don't care about the extended info, it's actually useful unless you edit your ID3 tags a lot. I actually hardly use playlists anymore because of media libraries. In the past Winamp and other programs didn't have a media library feature to keep track of all your music and give you a central location to play your music. You had to hit the open button and then browse for a playlist. Now things are much easier because of media libraries and albums lists (if you use Foobar2000).

or if you use winamp, or if you use real, or if you use wimp, or if you use itunes, or if you use a whole bunch of media players that all include their own libraries and album lists and pull it off way better than foobar. kthnx
as far as extended m3u, i find it somewhat shitty. It would be far better to store the actual field values than the formatted title, change title formatting and the changes wont be updated. if it were just the field names, it'd be good to reformat. but thats just me. |
