build a remote control

A long time ago on the net I ran across a tutorial on how to build your own remote control for winamp using a standard ir reciever (from a tv or something else). They said you could use any remote you wanted (it could learn what button would do what function), and it was really simple to wire. It was connected to a serial port, and if I remember correctly there were two programs that needed to be running. One for the IR program, and another for a sort of interface to winamp. I guess the IR program would talk to the interface, which would then tell winamp what to do. I guess the interface program was seperate, and there fore the whole would be a lot less buggy (2x the developers). Anyways, in recent searching, I havne't been able to find this document. If I remember correctly, it was very simple (like no ic circuts or anything) but maybe I am wrong. If anybody knows what I'm talking about, It would be great to find that web page. Thanks so much.

P.S: I've seen other similar pages, but they all require lots of complicates soldering. Not that I can't do it, I just don't know where to find the ic's and such. Thx.

that actually looks pretty cool with the switches in the drvie bay cover. maybe i'll do that.

That's close, but I really want to make my own. For 2 reasons. 1) it would be super hardcore. 2) I might be able to sell them to other people for like $5. (and be really super ultra hardcore) Thanks for the links tho ^_^
