how come music beomces soft when i turn on mic?

some1 help me. why does my music become very soft when i put my input to soundcard... the db becomes something like 40. and my listeners say it's soo soft they can barely hear me. some1 help me with this problem... i'm new to this

Try turning up the selected volume in your mixers.

the music and BG levels are all at 0db... is tht correct??? i'm not sure... help me
