supposed to be forming their own goverment, but the US goverment only wants them to form a gorverment that is approved of in Washington.
Insurgents/terrorists/patriots/freedom fighters; all depends on your point of view. You
say insurgents, perhaps the Iraqi people have a different view? Perhaps these 'insurgents' are the Iraqi people and they are fed up with what goes on in prisons run bu the US & UK, perhaps they have had enough of their families members being killed by US & UK troops. Just because the goverment says they 'insurgents' dosen't mean they actually are.
Iraq has been a modern country from many, many years, with an educated population. Thats a fact, not an opinion.
I'm not Spanish, I'm British.(
). My view of democracy seems to be different than yours. I don't just place my tick on the ballot paper and wash my hands of democracy for another 3 to 5 years. If the goverment of the day does something I think is wrong, then I bloody well tell them so. I demonstrate, write letters, send e-mails. If they don't listen, well thats democracy to. But I take full part in the democracy of my country.
I agree that goverments off all political sides have done things that are appalling, but that doesn't mean we should shrug our shoulders and think 'well, theres nothing I can do about it'. Maybe you can't stop it, but thats not the point, sometimes you start something even though you know you will loose, because its right to do so.
Your president said the war was over, or rather the major fighting was over. To many pro-war supporters it was the same thing.
How else would describe what goes on in Gutanamo Bay(sp?), Afhganistan, Iraqi, Central America, South America, other than barbaric? And I'm not letting my country off the hook either. My country has been responsible for some the worst attrocities.
I'll quote you from an American citizen and soldier;
"My country, right or wrong; if right, to be kept right; and if wrong, to be set right!"
Carl Schurz 1829-1906
It irritates me when alot of your countrymen miss-quote Schurz.
