Plug-in for Apple Lossless
Just a post to show interest in such a plug-in.
Currently I play my lossless music through the APE plug-in, but having Apple lossless also would be very convenient. Thanks! |

So far, the exact specifications of the format are unknown outside of Apple. The files themselves are m4p wrappers, but Apple decided to use a proprietary codec within.
Reference thread: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/index.p...pic=21139&st=0 So until apple releases the specs of the format, we aren't likely to see one. It's possible that they could be played in Winamp the same way m4p (protected iTunes Music Store files) are: by calling the quicktime libraries from Winamp. Downsides to that are: no dsp processing (including eq), no burning/alternate output types. -=Gonzotek=- And yes, I agree, I'd like to see Apple Lossless play natively in Winamp too!
But I'm feeling much better now. |

Have you tried the plugin from rarewares?
http://www.rarewares.org/files/aac/in_mp4.zip If that plugin doesn't play back the lossless m4a files, please deinstall the rarewares plugin and install my plugin from this thread: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....hreadid=157572 My plugin needs Quicktime 6.5.1. It should be able to play lossless m4a files, but I haven't had a chance to test that yet. Please write back if it works - if it does, I will update the plugin (it probably still contains the memory leak I've fixed in my m4p plugin yesterday). It would be cool if you could also test if visualisations work correctly. Thanks! Edit: I just saw Gonzotek's post. If the codec is a proprietary Apple codec, the rarewares plugin won't work. My plugin should work, however, and it should support visualizations, DSP plugins, burning, etc. because the lossless files are not FairPlay-protected (unlike the m4p files from the iTunes Music Store) Last edited by ThomasW; 3rd May 2004 at 16:12. |

Winamp crashes when I try to play a lossless file. I can play protected files using the protected iTunes plugin, and I can play m4a AAC files, but lossless audio files cause an instant crash.
Specs: Toshiba P15-S479 laptop P4 2.8GHz HT 512MB RAM iTunes 4.5/QT 6.5.1 Winamp 5.03c with wa5update.exe installed EDIT: I fixed my own problem. On a hunch, I renamed the in_mp4.dll that came with Winamp 5.03 to in_mp4.dll.off and tried again. That works. I guess that plugin was trying to play the lossless files rather than the in_zm4a.dll and failing fatally. |

Never have two input plugins that can play the same file format enabled at the same time, ever.
