CD Storage Method
Hey all.
I was thinking that I really need to start backing up my stuff. I have about 30GB of albums on my HDD and about 200 cds not ripped to it yet and it's not backed up! I was thinking I should burn them as mp3-cds and store them so that I'd have them as backup. Do you all suggest I get an additional hard drive (external) and save it on it too, or should the cds be enough? What do you guys do? |

i would probably get another internal hard drive. i think external drives are too expensive. and mp3 cds can get scratched.

I suggest just the CDR's.
Unless of course you're loaded........ then it's easy to have duplicate HD's. Eventually, I want 2 x banks of HD's, plus the CDR backup.

I use external hard drives so I can take the tunes to wherever.

I've given up on CDR's, I had 2 consecutive weekends of burning. Where's the fun in that? Come pay day I'll be getting the household "backup system" (in other words a 320GB HD).

Yup, I'm tired of CD-R's. I currently have 220 CD-R's of MP3's... that's like 2000 albums. That's an awful lot of burning. Not to mention that many of the file names are screwed up and since we're talkin' CD-R, I can't fix 'em permanently.
I'm thinking of the "make an internal harddrive an external" solution. That way you get the low price of an internal but have way of making it external. Sounds sweet, haven't tried it yet, but I do know one thing : CD-Rs are getting annoying. |

I have two copies of all my music.
One on a little storage computer that is used only for music with eJukebox. (http://www.audiosoft.net) The other, is my main computer. This one I'm on now, used for my radio, Soulseek, etc. I also have the CD-R's, but those are thrown into a few crates in my closet. Scotty Doesn't Know |

I use CDRs for backup but keep a copy on my PC, but I think soon I need to get a DVD writer and some more harddisc space (either external or stuck in another system, such as my old Ultra5).
