Getting the balance right.

Ok, we have been playing arround with NSV for a while, but recently im finding alot of buffering issues for viewers.

Ive dropped the bitrate down as far as im prepared too, but im still getting buffering myself in the uk.

We are streaming from NY.SHOUTCAST.US, and i know the uplink from london is on a great connection.

If we could get some reports from you guys it would help. Any ideas on how we might improve things would be great too (other than changing the music lol)

Id love to hear from some wiser heads out there

thanks for your time

just checked the content of your station, I think for vp61 codec, 350kbps is kind of waste usage, and you don't need to use 30 fps, 20 fps is pretty good enough; aac for 128 kbps? that's too much, 32 kbps might be good enough. i think you can cut the bitrate to 200kbps or so.

Im trying to get the best out of the stream that i can, audio quality is going to be really important for us, and as we are going to be showing off real-time graphics (all content is generated live no pre-encoding) i would like to get it as fast as possible, generally the higher frame-rate on these things the better it looks..

That being said, ill give the lower settings a try and see if we cant get the balance a little better.

Thanks for taking the time to have a look.

paradoxradio, what has been suggested will improve things but a BIG part of the problem is that your host is on a lousy connection.

They are using he.net, which, while cheap, is pretty low quality these days. Equally as bad, it appears your server is on the west coast, if you want a server to serve users in London then you want a server on the east coast with direct connections to ISPs in the UK.

Another suggestion,

Most European hubs are wired for IP Multicast and it is also supported by many of the ISP's there as well.

Check with your ISP and see if they support IP Multicast. Would save you a bundle on bandwidth.

Most ISP's in North America refuse to link to the IP Multicast network for some idiotic reason. Would be nice if they did, bandwidth would never be a issue then.
