There is a poster on here who runs a great station called unsigned-online and he only plays music from people that are unsigned which means he does not have to pay royalties.
Tapp Out Radio is coming back under the name of FUTURE MUSIC RADIO very soon! Check Out The Site Today! |

Paying royalties and paying the RIAA are 2 different things. You don't pay royalties to the RIAA, you pay them to the BMI, SECAP or ASCAP jsut to name the big ones.

Technically, it is true. Its not required by Canadian Law for you to pay royalties.

I use
I use bearshare and I pay for the subscription to it so I guess in a way I do pay for my music. I pay $40.00 for the whole year. but i won't pay big bucks for the music. I figure it this way they can't get everyone cause the simple fact is they don't have enough man power to catch us all and when i say all I mean "Everyone with a Computer".Cause you know everyone in america or other countries has a computer. If they do it will take their whole lives and from what I hear they only go for those who they find with 5000 downloads or more. Those realy big time downloaders. and if they didn't want us doing it in the first place why sell us the tools to do it with. Such as CDRW an DVDRW and the Blank CD's and blank DVD's to do it with. Get a life those people you hear of getting busted have you ever met them? I think not. and if you did they where probably paid to say they was busted.

Re: 100% legal
As long as our server is in Canada we do not have to pay royalties to the American organizations. We also don't have any royalties laws yet in Canada however, SOCAN is hoping to have theirs passed by next year and it will be retroactive to when you started your station. It is something like 10% of your income if you are a commercial station. Just a little bit of research I have done for the station I am starting.
