All ATI PCI-Express GPU's are bridged

Quote:
Nvidia accuses ATI of FUD

But has cracked the ATI chip open

By Fuad Abazovic: Friday 18 June 2004, 07:22

IN NOT SO NICE document seen by the INQUIRER, Nvidia has again launched all out war on ATI. It's part retaliation to ATI dissing Nvidia's HSI and this is, we suppose, Graphzilla's way of letting its customers know what it really thinks about the Canadian firm.
Without discussing HSI's merits or demerits, as we're testing that in the next few days, we just want to show you one nice picture.

This is the proof that the INQ was correct in this article. Nvidia claims below that ATI chip is bridged inside and not native PCI Express, as ATI claimed.
Shame on ATI. Shame. But we should be happy to know that nVidia will move to a truly native solution in 3Q or 4Q.

So, in layman's terms, the PCI-express version is the AGP version with a built-on converter?

And this means that there won't be much/any performance difference?

Now, why would they want to do this?

Alex Jones: Do you want the puppet on the right or the puppet on the left? What a bunch of garbage; liberal democrat, conservative, republican. It's all there to control you! Two sides of the same coin. Two management teams bidding for control, the CEO job of Slavery, Incorporated! The truth is out there in front of you, but they lay out this buffet of lies. I'm sick of it, and I'm not going to take a bite out of it, do you got me?

To sell the same cards at a higher cost, thus having a higher profit margin, and also to provide competition with Nvidia.

ok... so can someone translate all of this to a regular non-super-compy-knower?

i know the difference between a pci outlet and a apg outlet, but i also noticed that most of the apg graphic cards are really good, while i can rarely find a pci graphics card. so basically, why is this a bad thing?

PCI express is the newest technology, it's going to replace AGP eventually.

It's faster than AGP, yet ATI's new card is just their old one with a PCI express converter attached, So it doesn't actually use the benefits of PCI express.

PCI: Old
PCI Express: New

Different technologies.

PCI Express is the next big thing that will supposedly replace AGP and PCI all together.

Actually ATI has a lot of explaining to do. First ATI said that their PCI-Express cards are native, so naturally they bashed nVidia for first introducting a briged solution. But the whole time they were talking smack about nVidia's bridge, they have a bridged solution as well. Now ATI is saying that they will introduce a "bridged solution" a few months after the PCI-Express launch to save on manufacturing. Confusing isn't it? The die photos confirm everything. Intel said Prescott had 64-bit capability and no one belived it until they saw the photos themselves.

I've already made my decision when PCI-E comes out. I'm gettin an nVidia 6800U. Only because it boasts a little extra features that ATI doesn't have. PS 3.0, and some manufacturer's will include Dual DVI. Comes in real handy if you have Dual Samsung LCDs.

At least you have a video card. Mine has onboard AGP (no AGP slot), which sucks much butt.

nVidia just announced that the 6800 Ultra doesn't need two power connecters anymore. Instead of a 480 watt power supply, it only requires a quality 350 I think. The only drawback is that there's little to no room for safely overclocking.

Just wait till Doom3 comes out before you buy anything, then this glue chip shit should be long forgotten and native cards will be out.
