Ok first up...
What is the name of the skin? Do you know if it's a classic skin or a modern skin? Classic skins resemble the default base skin, ie rectangular, have 3 main windows and usuaully have the file extension of .wsz Modern skins are usually all kinds of funky shapes and sizes and normally have the file extension of .wal. Secondly, what version of winamp are you running? If you are running any of the Winamp 2.x series of skins, then the skin won't work if it's a modern one, only classic skins work on this series. If you are running the Winamp 5.x series, then both classic and modern skins will run on it, as long as you have installed the FULL version of winamp5 with modern skin support. You can get the latest full version of winamp5 from here. http://download.nullsoft.com/winamp/...mp503_full.exe Once you have decided what version of winamp you have and what type of skin it is, then do the following. Place the skin file into the winamp skin folder, usually located at c:\program files\winamp\skins Then start winamp, and press ALT+S to bring up the internal skin browser, select the skin you want from the list and bingo, your player should be skinned Alternatively you can right click on Winamp and select the "Skins" option from the pop up menu and select your skin from here. |

It's a classic skin and I do have Winamp 5. It doesn't really have a name it's just something my friend came up with. I do have it in the skins folder but when I try to select it as a skin it isn't on there as an option.

Do you have Winzip? If you do, just create a new zip file and put those skin files in it. Then you can put that zip file in your skins folder, and it should work.

Did you zip the files without the folder they were in?

ok, use the prntscreen key to take a picture of the screen. It is to the right of the f12 key.
open paint. (start menue>>programs>>accesories>>paint) on the top menue, go to edit>>paste choose the pencil and choose a colour and draw a circle around the file which is supposed to be your friends skin. e-mail the picture to dlinkwit27 at yahoo.com (replace " at " with @) and i'll upload it so we can take a look at it. |

Or just do this...
Open the Winamp\Skins\ folder. Right click somewhere in the folder (but not on a file). Select "New" and click on "Folder". Select all those "little file things" from that skin. Move them in that folder. It's probably called "New Folder", but you can rename it if you want (right click on the folder, select rename, etc.) Open Winamp. Click the button in the top left of the screen. Select "Skins". Look in the list that popped up. The skin should now be visible. If you didn't rename the folder it'll be called "New Folder" ![]() .

There isn't any reason it shouldn't appear in the skins list.
One last thing, press Alt+S to bring up the skins selection list, then click the "Set Skins Directory" button. Make sure it's set to C:\Program Files\Winamp\Skins. Other than that, I can't figure out any reason it wouldn't work. |

I'm sure problem is solvable.
Firstly, have you double-checked that the folder you are putting the skin into is actually recognised by winamp as the winamp skins folder? Press alt-s in winamp and then click the "set skins directory" button to set it. If that doesn't enlighten the problem, then ZIP all the files together and upload the ZIP file here. If it's too big to upload here (the limit is 100k), then simply zip half the files into one ZIP file, and the other half into another ZIP file, and upload both ZIP files to here in 2 separate posts. Chances are we'll be able to figure out what the problem is. Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny.
