Password Protecting Stream

Is there a way to password protect a stream so only authenticated listeners can listen?

It's been brought up before. A way you can do it is don't make it private, and password protect your site that has a listen link on it. Do a search, there might be other solutions.

I hear ya - that isn't too bad - however, if someone knows how to port scan - they can figure out that my server is streaming. An actual stream authentication would be better so it protects the actual port the stream is on rather than just the PLS file / link. I'm sure what you wrote is the only way - but I'm hoping maybe someone has found a better way.

Thanks!

No prob. If you're worried about average listeners connecting, I'm guessing the average listener has never heard of port scanning

Why are you so paranoid about it?

Set it to not be listed in the directory, and just give the link to the people you want to listen, it's that simple.

yeah, i'm back.

No - my main concern is that I am unlicensed and I don't need any powers that be figuring out that I run a personal stream. I only run it for my own personal listening - however, if it is open then they have the power to litigate - whether or not I link to it. Open is public not private.

Digit, There are thousands of stations on shoutcast streaming illegally, and we dont ever hear of them getting busted by riaa.

Especially if you are just streaming with 1 or 2 slots for yourself to listen to, and dont have a website for it or anything, if thats the case , chances are you are the last station the riaa would be looking for.

yeah, i'm back.

If it is blocking those 'organizations' then use the simplest method - block them.

http://techfocus.org/comments.php?catid=17&id=3671

This is a list of those associated with the RIAA. Block these IP's along with any IP's you can trace from ascap.com, bmi.com and sesac.com. Then as far as they can tell you don't even exist. This also works to block them from your website and anything else you deem fit to.

I'm legal but I block them just because I don't like the rat bastards.
