bit rate problem

ok.. for some odd reason my bit rate changes out of no where.. i want it @ about 96 or so.. i have a dedicated server where i run the main server from.. so that should not be a problem. it works for about a couple songs.. but it seems that when i switch to a mic to talk, it goes back down to 24.. i tried to search to forum. but came up empty.. my other dj is having the same problem.. it changes without notice.. is there something that i missed. sorry if it is a cross thread. every other question was found searching, but not this one...

its running off a linux box with red hat 9.
