lol
yea merely showing us 1 layer with an inset is not enough to interest us, when youve got something more than that offering feel free to post an update that is just a waste of time (atm at least!) concepts come from within imo, what you have there is merely an idea that may have been just plonked together. show us some concept sketches or something. think about the design and where all the buttons are going to go, how do they integrate with the shape/size etc a worthless thread imo, some1 delete it |

Please excuse my expresion but slowly these threads starts to get annoying.

slowly getting annoying?! your must be far more patient then i.. this is stupid... where are the buttons suppose to go...
@Ziege: that thread your looking for it in the modern forum Sticky.. Should be here MR Jones: can you possibly make that sticky title flashing perhaps... or bold flashy, with neon signs or something like that, just so it kinda attracts the attention of people with half hearted skin attempts... I'm not sure if it was flashing neon and was advertising free porn and llama blow jobs it would catch peoples attention....

Hmm actually I thought somebody wrote a post about people posting 1 layer rectangles with a bevel and a screen, then asking what we thought. Perhaps I imagined it O_O
That sticky thread you linked is a different issue, it's about people requesting having skins made for them. WIP: NSX-999 |

ahh yes... good point... i do remember someone having a rant and rave about the rectangle with a f*** up shape that would take about 5 mins, and 1/2 ounce of imagination... might try and find it...

why does everyone act like such assholes towards new people? Everyone has to start somewhere. Its no wonder there's so few decent winamp skins considering the attitude of some people on this forum.

well lectro... we were all new once right? but this is a game of the fittest survive, if you want to survive, make an effort, honestly, skinnas attempt at a skin is far from decent, i had no idea how to use any imaging program when i started skinning... but i made an effort to have a complete image before i showed it off... skinnas had 2 shapes and some shading... someone else posted a new skin design it was almost complete, they were asking for opinions about what was left to be done, and people were appreciative of an effort, skinna has fallen well short in this aspect... put in the miles and you'll get back the smiles. surely you can see my point of view...

There is "starting somewhere", and there is "starting somewhere"
Surely if you are coming to a media player forum to show off your latest idea for a media player skin, then you would have least have something that looks a little like a media player to start with and not just a square/circle/triangle/blob, or maybe that's just me stating the obvious. To me, even a basic basic basssssssssssic player skin should contain a few obvious things to start with before you start moulding it into shape, lets look at them, or at least what I consider to be basic requirements. Control buttons, pretty obvious, it's a music player, not much good if you can't press play. Song ticker, always handy window control buttons, not always essential, but useful never the less Vis?, again, not always essential, but handy volume/pos sliders, again, always handy , especially on something for media playback. Now, come to the table with a few of those things already in place and most people will pay a bit of attention to you, come with a square box with nuffing on it, and most people will inwardly say "oh shit, not another square with nothing on it". This isn't a problem that's unique to modern skins, oh no, it's been around for ever with classic skin, "here look, I drew this title bar, but I'm not sure what to do with the rest of it" People are in such a rush to show off whatever tutorial they have just learnt in photoshop, they barely stop to think about anything else that might be needed, and that's what gets up peoples nose. I've been saying this shit for years, it's only recently that other people have been voicing similar opinions... |

even half that stuff you mentioned isn't necessary for a first time viewing... some cbuttons yes... other wise you haven't got a media player... it's be like a car with out a throttle pedal... display is okayish, look at many shade modes, next to no display there... song name and artist are a must have... vis... well most people just use the default spec analyser, or oscilloscope, so we all know what they look like... i think you'd get better feed back if you were to show a black and white outline sketch as oppose to a coloured blob..

I understand, but it wasnt what people were saying but the way they were saying it. Some off it was simply malicious. Its not good for a new skinner to come to a forum and just get bile spat at them for a mistake. People should be more construstive and encourage people to come back when more work has done.

yeah, i see your point, but the way i understood what was said, no one was spitting bile at skinna directly, instead taking a shot at his half hearted skinning predecessors...

i'd love to give some creative critics, but in this state of development this is just not possible. it doesn'T even show your skill in gfx.
but i give you one tip, that makes your life easier in the forum (and in skinning!!) when making a skin, make the first layers without any style... just a color and the right shape. this way you will have something to work with, it will grow much faster and you can post a much more developped skin in here in the same time. it also makes it easier for your mind to experiment with different layer styles.. hope this is helping

No worries man, just wanted to let you know that it's kind of useless to post them at such an early stage, wasn't sure how long the 1-a-day thing was going to continue otherwise
![]() If you're going to be starting a lot of different designs and want to know which we think has the most potential, why not wait until you have a whole bunch of them and post them all in one thread, we can pick which one we like best. Or if you know which skin you want to make, wait until you've done a lot more to it, because as others said it's impossible to tell what the final skin would be like from those shots. No need to stop posting completely though, if you do need help with any part of the gfx (or coding) while putting it together just be very specific about what you want and feel free to ask (Or search for tutorials, there's millions out there.)
