It's dark, has nothing to do with waves........ has a synth-driven sound that you can dance to. The architypal darkwave band is Depeche Mode.

Intelligent lyrics, no throat-blistered shouting/screaming.

So then, if your main musical diet is Linkin Park or Sum 41, forget it.
