can't expect everyone who comes to the forums to know exactly where to go.
you know...considering the fact that "GD" AND the "bitchlist" are both above the skinning forums on the main page.

I really am sorry. Normally, I would try to help and like you, I hate the newb bashing that seems to go on around here. inob, let me see if i can help you out instead of just being like everyone else:
Making a skin takes loads of time. I actually did make someone a skin once but it was only because they wanted a base skin in a specific color. Anyway, ask in the skinning forums if you really want someone to make it. But if you're heading out to the skinning section, you might as well ask how to make a skin yourself. Trust me, its not that hard and everyone there is really nice. We can help you get started and give help with any questions you have along the way.

HAHA yeah after this I don't think I will be asking anyone to do it for me. I really seriously don't know anything about it, and I looked at the "creating a skin" thing on this website and it said that it was like totally easy, so I thought to myself "maybe I will see if anyone just really LIKES to make them" ...but apparently the website lies and they are harder than a biotch to make.
I know NOTHING about graphics, computer codes, etc...i think it would take me a lifetime to learn |

its really not difficult at all. that is, assuming you are making a classic skin. if its a modern skin, its harder but still doable.

Well, there's no coding in classic skinning. All you have to do is paint pictures. I'll explain a little more. Each part of a winamp skin is made from a seperate picture file. For example, the titlebar, the control buttons, the shuffle/repeat buttons, etc each have their own file. When the skin is loaded, winamp puts all of these pictures together to form a skin. To make one, all you have to do is take a template skin (I wouldn't reccomend using the base skin as a template. Use skinners atlas instead) and paint what you want over the images. The tricky part is learning how the pieces fit together and sometimes it can be difficult to make it fit. You have to be creative. But when you complete a skin, its a very rewarding experience.

First, you have to download the template skin from here: Skinner atlas
That file will be saved into your skins folder which is in your winamp folder. The winamp folder is usually located in C:\program files\winamp Then you should open the skinner atlas wsz file using winzip or something simmilar and extract the files there to a new directory in yor skins folder. That way you won't have to keep opening winzip every time you change something. Once thats done, you should go into whatever painting program you like and start painting. There are many different ways to go about creating the skin. Here's what I do. . . Some people reccomend making a sketch of the skin first but i don't like to do that. I find it difficult to get it to look right that way. (Again, thats just me. making a sketch might work for you). At the very least, you have to have a mental picture of what you want the skin to look like. You should start with the file main.bmp and paint what you want the main window to look like. Keep in mind that most of the things in that file will be overwriteen by other files but its a good starting point. Once you do that, you can cut out the images and place them into the appropriate files and you'll have a working main window. yay! The procedure for the other windows is simmilar. I reccomend reading the readme in skinner atlas. It is VERY helpful and will get you started quickly. Never underestimate the bandwidth of a station wagon full of tapes hurtling down the highway. |

Hahaha well already I appreciate your help. although it is very disconcerting when you talk about "Then you should open the skinner atlas wsz file using winzip or something simmilar and extract the files there to a new directory in yor skins folder."...because i don't know what that means...
and also, so if i do one for In N Out, do i have to like ask their permission to use their pictures or anything? |

The way it works is they'll keep it up on the website unless the company asks Nullsoft to take it down. Thats not very likely to happen so there shouldn't be a problem.

A fast-food Winamp skin... That's new...
... and lame. : D Keep in mind that if you use the In-n-Out logos/trademarks you may run into copyright issues, unless you just want to use the skin for yourself and not publish it. |

Just try following some of the guides on skinning and ask for help in the skinning forums and I'm sure you can try making this. Just give it a go
