Best Server?

hey.

I'm wondering what the best server (to host a shoutcast radio station) is and how much money it is.

basically I'm looking for the best bang-for-your-buck one. Cheap but fast/alot of storage/all that good stuff.

Thanks

Storage? You wouldn't need storage unless you were doing ondemand.

www.radiotoolbox.com/hosts
Choose one that looks good to you. Beannet cuold probably give you a good deal, they had given me a quote, only 100 bucks a month for 100 56k slots and 25 24k.

yeah, i'm back.

You have to stream to the server if you want them to be able to stream without clicking on individual songs, that would be ondemand.

Which means you would need your computer streaming to the server 24/7.

You don't need the amount of slots I do either. Just starting out you'll need no more than ten, increase the max as you grow. You could probably get 10 56k slots for less than 15 bucks a month, all depending on where you buy them from.

At www.wavestreaming.com you can get 10 56k slots for 10 dollars a month.

yeah, i'm back.

Well you can probably hjost from your own line at 56k, and have 2 to 5 listeners.
www.dslreports.com/stest
Take the test and let me know what your upload speed is.

56k is decent quality, but it still isn't as good as CD quality. But cd quality would cost you 3 dollars or more per listener.

My 56k line:

Sounds decent but it doesn't sound as good as a 128k line would.

Take the test, let me know your upload speed, you can probably start out on your own line. I started out with a max of 4 listeners at 24k from my own line in february.

yeah, i'm back.

Your upload is 178.

Your upload divided by the bitrate = max listeners

yeah, i'm back.

I'm lucky, I get around 384 (which is exactly what rogers says I get) Leveling it off at 370 to be safe I can get 15.416666666666666666666666666667 listeners OR 15 at 360 OR 16 at exactly 384 ^^

If I hosted it on my comp, who wants to be that .416666666666666666666666666667 listener? Any takers? :P

Those are at 24k

Regards,

Death Reaper

no he's postpumping this link into 3 very dead threads, and breaking the no advertising rule.

Each Thursday a new show on Celtica Radio with Darkwave music.
