Transparency Enhancements
1. Tiered or staged transparency; i.e. upon focus or hover a window returns to a designated opacity other than 100%.
2. Clickthrough mode: Allows a transparent window set to always on top to be click-transparent until focus is specified by selecting the tray icon, or hovering for a specified amount of time, or (any other ideas?) a hotkey. |

So far as I know transparent windows set to opaque on focus will focus themselves on a click to the transparent window. My suggestion would require that they not do so, and that any mouse actions targeted over a transparent window would only impact items on a layer behind the window (with the setting enabled, of course). The winamp window itself could be refocused only by clicking the actual taskbar icon and/or hovering for a specified (and obviously significant) length of time. In other words, the window's display would be embedded in the screen but act as if it were minimized.

I second the motion for an option that allows the window to remain "transparent" to clicks. The additional option to have a "hovering" opacity level is also a really cool suggestion too!
It would be very useful to me to have WinAmp remain transparent even while hovering or clicking on it. The clicking would actually be translated to the window below. This way, you can leave WinApp slightly transparent so you can see it, but still have access to the window beneath. This is especially useful to me when I'm developing code that requires my windows to be maximized, while at the same time seeing WinAmp in action. I believe there is a windows WS_EX_TRANSPARENT flag that can be set to allow the clicking of the window to go to the window below it. This is what ToolTips use when they display. The tooltip has the WS_EX_TRANSPARENT flag set even though it is painting and showing data. When you click on a tooltip the window beneath it gets the click. If I really want to interact with WinAmp, then I'll click on the systray icon. Or perhaps make only the title-bar of WinAmp clickable to allow it to come out of super transparency mode. This feature would ROCK!! |

I think there is a great plugin, which already has similar features: Lucidamp: http://www.daishar.com/lucidamp/
And for the tray icon clicking: "One Click Show & Hide" plugin at http://nunzioweb.com/daz/ What's your opinions? |
