Need help with people connecting to server.
I started up my shoutcast server and Shoutcast source. It is working, but no one can connect to it! I'm behind a router, so can anyone help? (It also says disable internet sharing on the server box.)

Two (or less) easy steps:
1. If you have a firewall, open the necessary port(s). 2. If you have a router, configure it to forward the necessary port(s) to the DNAS machine. Check out the Sticky post titled: SHOUTcast: Important Info & Answers to FAQs. READ ME! Scroll down a bit and look for the section titled: DNAS Stuff -> Errors -> Fixing [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (Cannot see your station/computer (IP: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxx) from the Internet, disable NAT/firewall/ISP cache (Connection timed out) Are the necessary ports open in your firewall and are they being forwarded to the DNAS machine? Check out http://www.radiotoolbox.com/cantheygetin and see if the reported information there helps. -- Michael |

Other than 3rdparty hosting (which is not free), there is no other way.

set your server to port 8000
Go in to your router and forward port 8000 and 8001 to the IP address of the computer with shoutcast server on it. Now when someone tunes in, they will use the IP that your internet provider gave to you with :8000 NOT the IP of the computer behind the firewall. When an incoming request is sent to your real IP, it will be forwarded to the router designated IP of the computer with shoutcast on it. If that doesn't make sense, I'd suggest stopping where you are before you invite hackers into your network. Cheers! |

I heard that when you forward the ports that shoutcast uses that people can't get into your network via those ports.

if you do everything correctly, you should be safe.
But, as we all know, nothing is totally secure. I simply wanted to convey that if you really don't have a clue what you're doing, stop where you are before you open up your router and start adjusting things. Good Luck! Cheers! |

As long as you have a "service" attached to a port, no one can use that port to gain entry into your computer. If you forward ports 8000 & 8001 to the PC with shoutcast and shoutcast is up and running you have nothing to worry about.
