how to allow multiple sources
hello,
i'm new to shoutcast so here is want i'm searching for (and i hope i can do it with shoutcast): I want to allow several people in LAN to be able to queue music on one computer. So I am hoping to configure shoutcast to allow mutiple sources which send to the same channel and the music is beeing queued. Thanks, roti |

i'm not exactly sure what u mean,
you want more then one user to send data to the server for streaming? this can't be done. SiX - what's reality compared to me... www.remixwars.com - free mp3's for download! free shoutcast scripts: http://dev.irn.ca |

well as I understood there is a shoutcast server (which is a independent application) and there is a plugin for winamp called a shoutcast source which sends data to the server.
any other user which connects its winamp to the server will listen to the source's music, right? well i want more than one sources to send data to the server, and more than that: the track's are queued for playing. if shoutcast cannot do it then maybe you know another way to achieve this. |

and if two users at the same time cannot send data for streaming to the server then why are the server and the source not the same entity?

The server and dsp are two completely different things.
You cannot send 2 streams to the same server, however what you could do i suppose, is to use different broadcasting platforms. You would still want to connect through shoutcast so i dont think that would work at all. The server can only handle one stream at a time from the dsp. As stated as i understand it, you cannot make than one stream at a time. You can have as many bandwidth selections as you want, dependant on the dsp theorectically. If you want to cue music, then you need to get a program that will cue them up for you, unless you do this manually. ...i am not the expert here, but read the forums for what your looking for, you should find something similar, and the answer should lie between the two. Hope this helps. |

I understand what he wants to do. I had this same thought. You would want two streams if you had two DJs who were each broadcasting from a different location and you wanted them to be able to have an online conversation about a track, for example.
I wonder if in the future multiple streams could be added as a feature. |

i dont know what kind of programs there ae available for linux, but a very simple solution for windows is to use a voip program like free world dialup, skype, or the numerous voice chat programs and use that to get the 2 djs talking. then have the first dj simply set up his dsp for soundcard input, set the mixer to stereo mix recording and you should be set. the dsp will now pick up everything including the microphone and the voip feed.

You cannot have more than one source unless you run more than one copy of the server. to find out about this do a search.
or you can just use icecast. |

Icecast supports multiple streams and even fallback!
Besides that, you can force user to move to another stream. This feature could be used to solve your problem... regards, Arkadas Amereeh |

SAM2-built websites produce 'Request Song' links next to every track in the station site's playlist, and clicking this automatically queues it on the sources machine (as the IP is linked to it). This could be used as an internal way of multiple users queueing tracks from one Shoutcasting source.
