Headphones
I'm sure this has been asked before, but I'd like some headpone buying advice. I listen to mostly rock, some soundtracks from musicals. I'd like decent bass, but not booming and not so much that the bass starts to drown out everything else. I think I'd prefer closed studio style headphones, only because the behind the ear type hurt my ear after a while. I'm looking for them to max 40-50 dollars and I realize that isn't going to get me pristine quality. Thanks, Matt.

Re: Headphones
Quote:
Closed or open refers to the design of the speakers, closed ones have a sealed air volume at the back. Both open and closed headphones can sit on the ear or "around the ear". Fuck this place. |

Perhaps it is a misunderstanding. I thought that closed meant the ones that look like half of a sphere on your ear. I just don't want those ones that rest on the ear via a little piece of plastic between the ear and head.

I have HD 280 Pros (next model or so up), which I use for everything including actual studio monitoring. Any reasonable Sennheisers are great, sound reproduction is very accurate, and if they're selling for 50% off, I'd say go for it.
They don't have as much bass as some cheaper headphones I've had, but they have realistic bass - it's pretty even frequency response across the board and really good sound separation. They also have another series of open headphones more for hi-fi use you could look at. Open as in open at the back, still going right over your ears. Those are closed (at the back), whcih is why they're Studio Monitoring - because there's not much sound spill so it's good for recording. |

Yeah, read most post above, I have those. They rock. You can hear all the errors in every song, music will never sound the same.
That's a really good price too, mine cost a bit more than that - I only got them since I started my uni audio course, they'd usually be outside my budget.
