Xbox Live and SHOUTcast (lagging)
Hey,
It seems when I am streaming my online radio station, my brother's xbox live is lagging... I have a Linksys router, so if anyone could help me it would be great. Whenever I am broadcasting and his xbox live status turns red, I have to end my broadcast for the evening (or for a short period)

Lagging=latency -- whenever there is more than one active connection transferring data on your network, the connections take turns in a way -- what this does is increase the latency of each connection -- bad for games and streams that are timing sensitive. Gaming and A/V streams do not play well together.
There's really not much you can do -- games expect full access to your connection, as does a SHOUTcast [they're both continuous data streams] -- this is different from browsing, where the timing is not really important. Lowering the bitrate of the SHOUTcast may help, but increasing bandwidth [especially on the outbound side] is really what the doctor ordered. /* v2 HTML5 / Player test pages DigitalMixNYC, DigitalMixNYCbx | DNAS Status: Now Playing js codes (scaststatus_X.php) | PortForward.com | Upload/Download Speed Test | No-IP.com: Free Dynamic DNS | In the YP | dnasDir */ |
