Nec 1300 stopped working

I recently migrated my NEC 1300 DVD-writer out of the actual case into its own house (external case )

It worked fine burning DVD-R and DVD+R so I never thought more of it...now today I had to burn a CD-R and to my surprise it won't work. I dunno if it's due to the burner or the migration...anyone else have experienced this partial fault (DVD working but not CD)?

How does the external enclosure connect to your pc? USB1.1, USB2.0, Firewire?

I've never tried putting a burner in an external case myself, but plenty of people have, and have had problems (especially with cheper enclosures). They're generally fine for reading though.

Sometimes burning at a slower speed works, sometimes the enclosure wont allow it at all no matter how much fiddling you do.
