why are my folders arranged by modification date?

when i open up a load menu in any application (like winamp, word, or any app. that allows me to view content on my computer, they're always displayed by date modified. each time i rearrange by name (alphabetically), but when i close it and open it again, its sorted by modification date again......what evil! can someone plz help me with this annoyance? thanks

Did you try control panel>folder options>view and checking "remember folders settings"? [it should be something like that, my system is in spanish]
