New Station Question

I found this site http://fast-serv.com/web/?action=shoutcast_hosting and I was wondering if any of you seasoned station owners thought it would be a good idea to run my station through them ?

Fast-serv is like top of the line to me. Not only do they have backup machines for when the main ones restart (i think), but he's got separate machines for different amounts of slots. In other words, they don't oversell

I personally get my windows media and a few shoutcast slots from them, I'm 100% satisfied. I like all 3 of the hosts in my sig

yeah, i'm back.

yes you can do it for free, but this would require you using your own internet connection which requires a half decent broadband connection to get a mediocre amount of listeners.

Like 15% or so of the list is even good.

Someone's gotta update that list...

Now I got the point. The listeners connects direct to the rádio on my own bandwidth?!?!?! It means that in my 256 Upload DSL I only can have +- 10 listeners at 24Kbps, is that so? If so, Do you Guys know a very cheap hosting, I need at least connection for 100 listeners with a 64Kbps quality to trasmit our church services here in Amsterdam. PLZ who can help?
Thax a lot guys 4 reply.

The user DANCEFM says: "It's a matter of choice , i currently host my own station." I know this is a silly question, but I ask anyway. Can we (my church) host our own station too? How does it works?

If you want 100 listeners, you're gonna have to pay a pretty penny for 1. servers and 2. extremely large amounts of bandwidth.

Or you could go to fast-serve like so many of us and let them do the dirty work and pay less for it. Hmmm...sounds like a no-brainer to me...

Another impressive point about fast-serv is their tech support, you'll love it.

I'll stand with them too. I host 90 % of my own servers at colo's but the only streamhost I trust with hosting my station is Fast-Serv.

wouldn't be better to pick a chiper host.?

I see you guys are really positive about this fast-serv. ;)
But have any one of you experiences with www.streamsolutions.co.uk? They seems to have better prices, and because I'm just starting, low budget, would be better to pick a chiper host.:igor:

I use two actually for my broadcast...

Mediacast1 is a decent service...

For 64kbps bitrate I'm paying $24.00 a month

Plus 3 free sweepers from I think his name is Joe Gurety.

Wavestreaming.com

For 64Kbps bitrate I'm paying $24.00 a month plus 2 additional servers available just in case one goes down...

So for the money, not bad!

I also use Jeff Straub for my voice liners, and he is very reasonable and affordable!

Laters!

Guys, it's me again,
Thanx all 4 replying. But I come with on more question! Be patience!!!
Before I contract a real Server I'd like to make some tests on my own to see how it goes.
I've been looking all the forum topics for answers. I still didn't got it. I did set up the SHOUTcast DNAS at home and it's working fine, I'm using ADSL USB modem at home. But I'm trying to set up the server at our church as well and doesn't work. At the church we have a ADSL Ethernetmodem and seems to be behind a proxy implemented by our ISP. The question is: how can I get trough that proxy. What's and where I have to make changes.

Connection details:

Physical Address: 00-50-FC-F8-F5-C9
IP Address: 192.168.0.100
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DHCP Server: 192.168.0.1
Lease Obtained: 17-12-2005 17:22:30
Lease Expires: 17-12-2005 19:22:30
DNS Server: 192.168.0.1
WINS Server:

http://www.whatismyip.com says that our real IP is 62.221.226.122
Anyone PLZ,
Thanx again in advance! cheers,
dagob

I paid 24.00 for one slot on Mediacast1

and 29.00 + 5.00 for setup and a direct address for .com, .net, .org and for three slots on Wavestreaming.

64K, 48K and 24K.

Which I'm working on the on-demand side of shoutcast so that I won't have to deal with uploading... That is something I don't know anything about as far as FTP File Uploading.

Wavestreaming are really good at what they do as well as Mediacast1.

Take it easy!

PS: I WOULD BE VERY Weary as to what IP address I post on here!!!! Thats a good way to get someone to hack your computer... if you post an IP address post like this:

162.45.XX.XXX

That way no one can use that IP and have your computer.

Just trying to help you out!
