Not all MP4s are created equal. Or as audio

Greetings DJEgg!

This could be an IN_MP4 or GEN_ML 'bug' I guess, so forgive me if I should have posted in the Plugins thread.

Hardware: Athlon 1.2, 256MB
Software: XPSP2, WinAmp 5.07 (first noticed in WinAmp 5.03), no 3rd-party plugins.

I have an MP4 movie file created in "Nero Digital" format. (fear not, I don't expect Winamp to be able to play the file) (...although Winamp does play the audio from the file...)

The problem is that Winamp thinks the filetype is audio (in Media Library, the file appears in the "Local Media>Audio" SmartView and not the "Local Media>Video" SmartView).

Hopefully this is an easy fix, because if you Alt-3 the file, the "MP4 info editor" window lists the tracks contained in the file and it says that track 3 is a video stream and track 4 is an audio stream.

So as Winamp knows the file contains video, the media library SmartView thingamabob should recognise the type as 1 (video) not 0 (audio).

Workaround would be to remove the movie file from my media library I suppose

I would give you a link to the file but it's like 700MB long

Ta!

If you have an mp4 splitter installed you can add ;mp4 to the DirectShow extension list (Preferences > Plug-Ins > Input > in_dshow), then Winamp will recognize and play it as video.

The only downside to this is that it will then list all .mp4 files as video so audio-only ones have to be renamed to .m4a to be listed correctly.

Fuck this place.

Cool that's a better workaround, Winamp lists all my MP4s as Video now (it even plays the video, albeit without sound but that is by-the-by.)

Still be nice if Winamp checked the file to see if it had a video stream in it though...
