Playing Streams Through Winamp
Hi all,
Is there a way to play Windows Media Player live web streams through Winamp? I have a live web cast being shown through Windows Media Player, but when I type the address in Winamp, it does nothing. The address starts with http:// Thanks. |

Hi again.
I am unfortunately not allowed to give away the address, but the address is http://broadcast.something.com/8001 I have replaced the proper name with 'something' so I am not giving away the indentity. When I type the proper address in Windows Media Player, it plays no problem, but I am wondering why it will not play in Winamp and if there is a way to? Thanks. |

Sorry, you may be out of luck. We can't offer much help without an actual address. If the address points to an actual stream and not a playlist file, try adding /.wma to the end of the address. Otherwise...

Hi,
thanks for that. I just tried your suggestion and I get audio but no picture. Is there a way I could get both? It is an actual stream not a playlist file. Thanks. |

What file format is it?
WMV? Other? Is 8001 the port? eg. www.site.com:8001/filename.wmv ? Alas, we can't really help without knowing the actual stream url. You could PM it to me if you wish... |

Under no circumstances am I allowed to give it out. I know it would be easier if I could, but I have been told not to.
The exact address with the missing name is http://broadcast.something.com/8001 I was given this address and it works fine with Windows Media Player. However, I am wanting it in Winamp, but cannot figure out how. When I add a /.wma on the end, I get audio but no picture. The only reason I want it in Winamp is so that I can take screen shots. Camtasia does not work with W.M.P but does with Winamp. Does anyone know any video capturing software that does work with Windows Media Player that does allow to stream live as well as takes screen shots, like Camtasia? I do thank you all for your replies and I understand that you maybe annoyed that you cannot tell me an answer because of the exact URL. Sorry. Thanks again. |

Adding /.wma is only if it's a wma audio stream.
You didn't tell us it was a video stream until your 4th post :/ You'll need to add something to the end of the url to let the Nullsoft DirectShow plugin know to handle it instead of in_mp3.dll One of these might work.... blah.com/8001?.wmv blah.com/8001?ext=.wmv blah.com/8001/.wmv blah.com/8001;stream.wmv blah.com/8001&filetype=.wmv etc Or you might have to replace "wmv" with "asf" Or there's a chance that none of the above will work. Sorry :/ |

If Egg's suggestion does not work, try this in WiMP...
1. Tools > Options 2. Performance tab 3. under 'Video acceleration' click the Advance button 4. under 'Video Acceleration' uncheck "Use video mixing renderer" and the options under 'Legacy video renderer' The above steps are based on WiMP9 and may vary for other versions. Hopefully that should allow you to take screenshots of vids in WiMP |

Thank you both for your reply.
DJ Egg, non of the above worked, but thanks. However, JonnyMac, your suggestion has worked and I am now able to capture in WiMP. Thank you all for your help. Thanks. :-) |
