VP6 personal use discontinued

I was at the On2 site today, and found this: http://www.on2.com/duckutils/duck_li...php3?class=vp6

No more free downloads, they make you buy a commercial license. It's only $99 these days, but still. I wonder if distributing the Personal codec files will get us in trouble.

It will get you a e mail from them rather fast if they do find out.

If you are outside the United States - thats a different story. Depends on the international copyright agreements the host country where the server is physically located, has signed.

ON2 has recently finished raising a large sum of venture capital, and they are wanting to use the sales of their VFW encoder and small business streaming system to start generating large positive cash flow to put on the first quarter corporate earnings report for next year.

On the other hand, Theora and Dirac will always be free for both personal and commercial usage.

Well I hope they don't notice, but the VFW is still included in their NSV plug-in download.

"gasp shock awe"

well they'll never figure out that the 'forums' they linked to is just a thread called 3rd party nsv applications, they seem like utter fools who dont understand how the 'internet' works, they have some video coders but they must be back from the 50s when they were coding for laserdisc...

Their marketing has been spastic at best for NSV.

Seems a little to late to try and jump on the bandwagon now, especially with no updates for activex and VP6.2.

Not with Winamp.

There may be some possibilities of advertising with the other AOL player coming on line soon.

then join me in the Anti-AOL HQ.

<--

see

but, the fact that on2 did the licencing mumbo jumbo and has nothing to do with aol makes me wonder why. i guess you mean for fucking over nullsoft and thus preventing activex/xpi for vp6.2, and if that, then yes, i hate aol for that.

Hi everyone:

From what it looks like, the Winamp technologies will simply serve as the backbone for AOL's new Media Player (hence the usage of the Llama code name).

If this is the case, then I think the WINAMP.COM domain will probably remain as is with very little if any change, which is just fine with me since I have a Preferred Membership with Live365 and have their Radio365 program, which gives me access to THOUSANDS of REAL Internet Radio stations (Of course the SHOUTcast YP comes in handy too, but I can tap into that via the Winamp Media Library ).

That said though, I feel sorry for those who are taking advantage (READ - FALLING FOR) of the FREE bandwidth offer AOL is making because I'm NOT convinced they'll keep it up FOREVER. A look back at the number of places that offered FREE web hosting (and what happened to a lot of them) "back in the day" should serve as a reason to AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Just my opinion

Cheers for now

Hi everyone:

Heh....Well at least the corporate radio streams are MASSIVELY outnumbered over there (as well as on SHOUTcast), which is unlike places like WindowsMedia.com and the like.

That, of course, is because 98% of the stations listed on Live365 and SHOUTcast are either "Ma & Pa" Internet Only outlets or "Ma & Pa" LPFMs.

Hence the term REAL Internet Radio.

Cheers for now

hmm sorry I really don't think much of Live365, they lack innovation and forethought. The fact that they are still around is surprising.

Duh.... I thought we were talking about VP6?. It looks like the NSV "plug-in" is still available. I don't care because my project is in my pocket anyway.

$100 still seems steep, way steep, especially since we can only use 6.1. I was going to pay it today. If we are looking at a restrictive EULA, I'm inclined to pass.

NO, you have a SPAM MONSTER and you should REALLY shut up. Some of us have REAL stations.

You aren't even smart enough to figure out that you're Tripod site loads AT LEAST Lycos sidesearch.

I have repeatedly offered you solutions that don't screw everybody's computer up.

You are indeed lacking the simplest brain function.
