Use filename for metadata if ID tags are Track1 etc + hotkeys
Some of the MP3 files I have don't have sensible ID3 tags. They have Track1, Track2, TrackN as the name of the track and sometimes 'Artist' as the name of artist.
Winamp uses the ID3 tags in preference, and because it considers that the file has got ID3 tags it shows them, even though they are useless (see http://sky.erupt.com/winamp.gif). However the filenames are good and descriptive, so I think Winamp's metadata reading needs an option like "show the filename instead of ID3 tags if useless ID3 data is detected" or even better "show the filename instead of ID3 tags if ID3 tags match the following regex..." If there is no chance of this being added to Winamp core, I would be prepared to pay for this to be developed as a plugin. Also, I absolutely love global hotkeys but I find it very frustrating that "Jump to time" isn't available as one of the hotkey actions. Could this be added? Again, I would be prepared to pay for this as a plugin! |

jump to time (ill assume DrO's) so goto him, he does do paypal.
as for the tags, how would winamp ever know what a "good tag" is? there are two things you can really do until this miracle plugin is made: 1)delete any tag that you dont like 2)replace any tag you dont like 1)if the tag is blank you can use $if2(%title%,$filepart(%filename%)) though this would still would be imperfect 2)can i suggest editing your tags using an external tagger, so you dont have this problem. mp3tag is my choice. the godfather is very good as well. both are in my sig. you can use the media library smart views to really speed along this daunting task. create smart view that looks like: (title has "track") OR (artist has "artist") something to that effect. open the view > select all > drag to a previoulsy created playlist. you can open the playlist file in mp3tag and use the "filename to tag" function. it is very easy to use and it has an undo funtion when you mess up. both of the mass taggin programs i suggested also can tag your files from off the internet. |

So literally I want something that checks if the track name ID3 field is in the format Track1, Track2 etc. then it should use the filename. And I don't mean parse the filename to extract information - just show the filename as is. I always ensure my filenames include sufficient information. Quote:
