i have no idea

i don't even know if i'm in the right place, but if i am, i could use some help... somehow, my accounting sofware databases (2 for each year, 10 years worth) now all of a sudden show up in window's explorer as "shoutcast" files??!!!???!?? i know for sure that this was not the case on march 10th, because that was the date of my last backup... anyone know how/why this happened? and, the real question i suppose, how do i fix this? any and all comments/suggestions/theories would be greatly appreciated...
thank you

well, it's very strange... when i open them through the accounting software, they are listed as data files (*.pls), not shoutcast files... but in explorer, they appear as shoutcast files...

aaaah PLS is playlist files, not shoutcast files, what you can do is go to winamp (if thats installed) open configuration > file types, and uncheck PLS.
hope this helps

i know i'm a real idiot when it comes to computers, but i swear, when i go into windows explorer, right click on the 'data' file and click on properties, it says "Type of File: Shoutcast File" - and in media player, unless i am not understanding (which is, of course, very possible), the only file types listed are: wmv, wav, mpeg, asf, mp3, avi, midi, aiff, au and Music CD Playback... no "playlist" or pls... i am really sorry to be so needy - i honestly do not know how this even happened, as i don't stream audio or video on this computer... thanks in advance for your patience

and another thing...

i just checked and .pls is actually the correct file extension for our data files (MYOB Plus)... on the Controller's computer, under properties, it says "Type of File: PLS File"
?

if youre using winXP right click the pls file, and go to open with > choose program, and choose your accounting program and make sure to check "Always use this program to open this kind of files"

Else your an accountant in which case you can shove them up your a***! (Take to much taxes!)

On the otherhand - I hope you backed them up - you must have bought a new PC (and/or) backed them up in 10 years.

If not you are a fool, so listen to Virgin Dance and chill out!

Seriously though, just right click on one of the files, and on the menu, just select open with....

Then select your accounting software...all should be fine.
