Check out www.splooge.com for a replacement for scour exchange.

It lets you share all files and not just media.

Works with winamp just fine. Winamp rules!

Splooge, huh? I'll check it out. Hope it has resume & some users. That's the main problem is that it's so damn hard to get ANYTHING with a userbase that works well.

[edit][sarcasm]WHOO! 9 users! We're catchin' on now![/edit][/sarcasm]

Yeah, a userbase used to be an easy thing when people were running around looking for a decent service. Lately, most people have been set in their ways and won't try any of the new systems. We (Splooge) have had a very difficult time establishing a user base without spending any money (I choose to spend all mine on stereo equipment). It's ok though, once Napster goes legit (i.e. nothing good online), people will scurry around for something new.

In case your wondering, I'm the head engineer on the Splooge application. Resume? I've been programming since the mid 80s. Everything from assembler on a C-64 to this new fangled internet stuff. The guy that posted before was probably Marc, he's the guy with the bandwidth and hardware to devote.

We're a good bunch of guys, give it a shot, if you don't like it, no big deal, hell, even tell me why, and chances are I'll fix it so its exactly how you want it.

Thanks.

Sorry, I just didn't see the resume feature. I'll be checking it out for a little while, but I may just ditch it if no new users come up.

I prefer audioGnome to everything. It will let you log on to 1 Napster server, and will let you log on to as many OpenNap servers (uses Napster software, but is not run by Napster itself) as you possibly can. I'm on 5 right now. Access to 2 million files at the moment.

I've tried CuteMX, but it has built-in protection to eliminate many copyrighted songs. Theoretically, if your Copyright bit is no, CuteMX should share it. But they have an extra layer of protection - for example, my Metallica, Iron Maiden, ACDC, and Judas Priest songs quickly become "non-shareable", even though I have set the copyright bit to no using MP3 Tag Studio. It is obvious they have a database of artists/songs that they will not let you share. So much/most of my not-so-well-known material gets shared, while most of my popular stuff bites the dust. This translates into fewer available files for those wanting to download, not upload. This is why I gave it up - though it's interface kicks ass, with chat and all, and it's options, such as max number of uploads, actually works!

Dude, your a liar, There are 2 of us at splooge and we sent 1 mail EVER to our REGISTERED users at the time there were 101 users.

AS far as usenet goes, I made a few posts trying to stir interest in our FREE product.

I emailed one web site owner that i saw on winamp cause i thought his site was cool.

One of the coolest things about splooge is the way it handles resume. You can resume a file from any user. So if there is one user who has the same file you were trying to download from someone that logged off, it can resume from that other user. I think that feature is unique. I am not sure.

Also it allows sharing of any files and of any size.

Here's the link. www.audiognome.com

The site is pretty screwed, but the download section works to the best of my knowledge.

i guess thats a compliment on my site. ill download splooge tonite. and use it. and if i like it, ill use it again, and then advertise for it on my 50 unique hits a day travelled website. and if 1/50 people use splooge, imagine what the user population would be then. about 102. and then 103 and so on until im put in jail for conspiracy charges and my website removed.

The website alone is enough to warrant not giving your application a try. How about putting a screen shot on your website? Come on, get your shit together before you start advertising.

We are working on the website daily as well as the software daily. Sometimes releasing 5 new versions a day. We are very excited about our efforts.

I dont think we will post alot of screen shots since we are changing it often.

Ill see what I can do.

Honestly?

It's all in good fun, really. The only thing agressive about Splooge is when Marc (the other cofounder, see above) doesn't get his raviolis. *I* personally have spent a ton of time and effort on this thing. Constant pestering from Marc for changes and fixes etc, etc. I just want to see the system get used. Yeah, we posted to usenet, Spam, no. Just as many posts about every other system. I personally did 100% of the coding on this system, at my hourly consulting rate, it's cost me well over $20,000 in time. Marc has spent alot of money on the hardware and bandwidth necessary to get this running. Why did we do it? Community, as silly as that sounds. We come from a time when bbs's ruled the landscape, when internet meant telnet and ftp, and you were king if you could afford a 1200 baud modem. We tried to recreate the whole community thing the bulletin board systems had with chat systems, but unfortunately, most people aren't interested in chatting on anything other than IRC or AOL. So, we decided to give it another shot, this time with p2p filesharing as the central part of the system. Where it'll go, we have no idea, but we were doing it in the beginning, and we'll be doing it until the end. Happy Holidays folks.

The website most definately needs some serious modifications. Sorry, I'd do the changes myself, but I'm just too busy with work, and the Splooge changes to devote the time it takes to get a decent site together. Any suggestions? What would you folks like to see on the site? Discussion bases like this? We have a java chat app that we are integrating into the Splooge app, and the website. Maybe some direct downloads, etc. Lets hear it.

Which info page, the one that looks like the rest or the one Jimi just made with the information regarding the client that is all text? Ill stick navigation buttons on the bottokm of the splooge pages.

First off, the site is very hard to navigate.
Info page needs work
Really, once you go into the pages off the main page it is kind hard to get back, also, you really don't have the option to go to a different part. I would say a menu bar or something at the top of each page.

Also, limiting it to that's small area kind a sucks too.

At least clicking on the Splooge logo in the corner should take you back to the main page.

But really, my biggest gripe is the lack of ease in navigation.

I would like to see a full size page, and a lot more information on the main page.

I'll bitch about the client its self later.
