Action Quake II: 203.9.148.8:27910
If you've got GameSpy or Server Query, come on over to Labyrinth's AQ2 server (at the above IP) and kill some kids with me!

Who else kills kids? How do you do it? CS? Q3? You get the idea..

Damnit, I thought this thread was gonna be about killing people in reality.
Guess I'll have to change my reply to "not me". (Well, maybe a little in Samurai Shodown and Shock Troopers 2nd Squad.)

never played any version of quake.

used to play Doom all the time on my high school's little IPX network. like everyday after school between 3 & 5, we all just stayed in the first level to see how high we could get our frag counts. Ah, the memories.

no, the original Doom was the best and always will be.

And how exactly is wolf3d the best? It had a pretty crappy story line. I mean, you had to go and kill hundreds of soldiers and then you had to kill hitler like what...9 times? Pretty dumb i'd say. Not to mention the graphics stink. Its not even true 3d. That didn't come until doom. Wolf3d was awesome back in its day, but now Q3 is the big daddy here. I dont play quake 3 though because i only have a p2 350 and a slow connection. It runs like crap on my machine. Quake 2 runs decent. I play on gamespy whenever i get the chance.

I have Wolfenstein 3D version 1.4 on a floppy. Plus maps, secret levels, and a patch to shoot Barney instead of Nazi's. I don't use ICQ though. The program itself is only 711kb zipped though, so emailing it or putting it on the Winamp Intranet site would be a couple of options.

(I downloaded this in 1993 from a local BBS on a 9600 baud modem. Ah, those were the days!!)

I just had to look it up in a dictionary to see where it came from.

frag- noun (plural frags)
grenade: a fragmentation grenade (slang)
kill somebody with explosive: to kill or wound a soldier on your own side with a fragmentation grenade or other explosive device (slang)

[Mid-20th century. Shortening of fragmentation.]

I guess thats why they used it in doom, because you were killing humans instead of aliens.

Well actually...
True 3d didn't come in a FirstPersonShooter until Quake. I think Descent is the first truly 3d of any game.
Doom used pseudo-3d - the image you saw was 3 dimensional in appearance, but your motion was completely 2D. Remember that you couldn't jump? To get to a higher location you had to use elevators and such. Also, looking up/down caused a lot of annoying perspective distortion - it was more stretching than rendering. It was multi-level 2D, but the engine is not really 3d. It is *more* 3d than Wolf3d, but not a whole heck of a lot.
Rise Of the Triad was actually closer than doom. You could use jump pads and shoot enemies at higher levels. You had to aim occasionally. If you haven't played it, DO, now!!!

Besides, you can't play Doom or quake on an 8088 (with an ISA VGA card) Wolf3d? - YES!

I resurrected Postal. Mmm. I haven't played this thing since freshmen year... I forgot how sick I really was back then. Unreal... Quake... Postal... all great stress relievers, especially "when the weight of the world has got you down, and you wanna end your life." (Flaming Moe song from the Simpsons).

I've played deathmatch Quake, Quake II, Red Alert, Total Annihilation, Jedi Knight and many more.

Jedi Knight is not such a good multiplayer game, but its levels are huge. No, not "huge". HUGE! That's still an insult to LucasArts. H-U-G-E! That's still an understatement so here we go again:

HHHHHHHHHHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
edit>sorry!<
And that's what I like about Jedi Knight. Damn I wish Quake II's deathmatch levels could be as big. And don't you just love some lightsaber-toting action?

edit>meaningless vocab and spelling mistakes!<

I've played Civ II, Civ: CTP and Alpha Centauri, but I've never played Alien Crossfire. Of the three my fav is CTP - Alpha Centauri is just launching Civ II into space for the heck of it. Alpha Centauri is just a re-vamped Civ II with a little more attitude, while CTP extends the classic with great (and sometimes funny) innovations you'll never see in Alpha Centuari. The Sid Meir's glorious days are over, my friend.

But may favorite build-your-empire and knock-others'-down strategy game has to be Fragile Allegiance (other people: eh?).

If you haven't heard of the game, then damn you're in no luck, it's out of sale and not even on budget for some reason.

What is it like? In Red Alert you fight battles,k waging war from the safety of your base. In TA you fight battles, except this time it involves long marches and strategic bombing raids. In Civ II you fight wars, in turn-based and your aim is to wipe your enemy off the surface of the planet. But in Fragile Allegiance you fight wars - in real, breathing, living time!, and your aim is to wipe your enemy off the asteroid field.

Yup, that's right - you're a Terran corporate employee trying to make a living out of digginf up asteroids while kicking alien butts at the same time. Excellent variety of strategies available; kick their ass with hot ship-on-ship action (including the most violent battle scenes you'll ever see in ANY strategy games!).

Or be a little more strategic and collect infos with secret agents and spy satellites before you go in to battle, while launching missiles to weaken their defences.

Or be Saddam Hussian and send agents to sabotage stuffs, kill people or unleash some nasty bio-chemical weapons.

And the multiplayer, though very time consuming and only limited to LAN, is very rewarding.

Pity, you people just missed the action, and will never be able to get in it EVER.

Agreed. But I'd gotten so used to the controls of games like Street Fighter II and Samurai Shodown 2 that I still haven't quite gotten used to the control style of the Last Blade series. 'Course, it's easier to get used to than a lot of the fighting games that have come out since I drifted away from the scene some years ago.
