divx5.avi won't play - suggestions?
I'm in the process of pulling down a torrent, which consists of files of the name
"<insert program name here>.dvdq.704x384.divx5.avi" Two of these files are already down, but when I went to play them, media player whinges about not supporting that file type or codec. All the usual codecs are installed, including DivX 5.2.1, but no joy so far. So, any suggestions, before I download a potentially worthless 7Gb torrent? Like my photography? Buy some here.... |

if it's still downloading, it won't play. you have to wait until it's done downloading to play a file.

The way I understand it two files are already completely downloaded.
But maybe (most likely if the parts don't have any header) the video has been split into several files that have to be put together again, does the torrent contain some kind of readme? |

from my experience with torrents, if the files are 100% done, you can close the torrent and play the files but i've only done that with mp3s so i don't know about video files.

Most video torrents are multivolume rars.

gspot is the way forward. it'll tell you what the fourcc is, and that should give you a clue.

GSpot is the shit.
Anyway, GSpot will tell you it's not a valid file (or corrupted) if the file is still downloading. It doesn't mean it will be when it's done. Torrents can be worse for this because of the way it's downloaded... Just wait for it to finish and run GSpot. You shouldn't have any problems. |
