Why am I getting so many errors encoding mp3s?

I was running Winamp 5.08 and using Chun-Yu's mp3 writer plug-in for awhile and had no problems with it, but I got Winamp 5.09 yesterday and am getting nothing but errors - strangely the errors I get come after the track is about to FINISH encoding, whereas the few times I got errors before, it would happen at the beginning, which sounds more right to me.

Maybe Chun-Yu's plug-in doesn't support 5.09, or maybe there's something I'm doing wrong? What are the reasons why I would get so many errors - I'm only trying to encode 128 kbps to 320 kbps for better quality, something I've done dozens of times.

Or maybe there is a better mp3 encoder plug-in for Winamp?

Try Peter Pawlowski's MP3 encoder, which can be found here, http://timmy.p44.org/sawgstuff/#wa5. A slight warning, it is a little aged, but seems to still work. Hope this helps, jmat

Also, we really can't help you with the Chun-Yu's plugin. Contact the author of the plugin.

Tried Pawlowski's plug-in, it totally works, solid as a rock!

Thanks a lot

Good job jmatthews112

@ jakoby

The MP3 plug-in jmatthews pointed to installs a MP3 encoder dll (lame_enc.dll) to the Winamp directory. Winamp 5 (Full and up) has a default and more recent one in the Winamp/Plug-ins directory. In the MP3 output plug-in options try selecting Winamp's default lame_enc.dll file from the Winamp/Plugins directory.

Please do not PM me for tech support. Any request for tech support through PM will be ignored.

Actually if you want 128-320kbps vbr for best quality you should use this one (extract both the dll and ini into the Winamp directory), it'll ignore the settings chosen in the plugin UI and always use the tried and tested --alt-preset standard (you can select a different preset by editing the ini).

Fuck this place.

please expand on what you mean by "placed it in the same fodler for the DSP to call from"

Make sure you read gaekwad2's posr where he says to place both files in the winamp directory.

Basically, AntiFM has yet again posted a SHOUTcast related issue in the wrong forum, and has even revived an old thread to do so.

The topic in this thread is related to using MP3 Output plugins which use lame_enc.dll, and has nothing whatsoever to do with Shoutcast/broadcasting.

Please please please post ALL problems with the Shoutcast DSP in the Shoutcast forum only!

how about getting off your horse for a few minutes and just tell me that the comment belongs in :such: section

also
its quite obvious that i am NOT the only person posting / creating threads / messages /replies in the wrong sections so
with that
i am NOT the constant here.
What is the constant is that there is SO many variables for one to be exposed to, which will lead them to post in the wrong forum section.

A message board such as this with all its enormus range of content would be alot simpler to manage from the users point of view if persons like yourself would simply
LEND a hand istead of LENDING a fist

are we clear now?

PS
thaks for telling me which section i should have posted that comment in
all beit in such a crass and dismanoring way

I lend a hend by responding to thousands of Winamp user-related tech support issues posted in the Winamp Tech/Discussion forum.

There's a sticky thread at the top of both the Winamp Tech and Discussion forums which tells people NOT to post requests for SHOUTcast support here, but to post them in the Shoutcast forums - because that's where all the other Shoutcasters hang out... whereas 99% of the people who help out in the Winamp Tech/Discussion forums know absolutely nothing about Shoutcast DSP/DNAS.

We would normally move ALL Shoutcast-related threads posted here to the Shoutcast forum, but not if someone revives an old Winamp user topic with a Shoutcast user issue, those just get locked instead.

Is it really that hard to grasp?

Yes, hopefully we are very clear now!

I suggest that you repost your issues/questions in the Shoutcast forum, where hopefully you'll get a better response and find all the answers you need.

Good luck.
