How to calculate bandwidth?
HI!
I'm really interested in shoutcast, seems like an easy to set up solution for audio broadcasting. As far as I could understand, I can make a broadcast from a low speed network like, say, my home ADSL, upload it to a high bandwidth server, and the users connect to that server, right? My budget is really low, and this is an experimental thing for me right now, but I may be able to get a "free" server. I'm not really sure If I can get 192kbps or 512kbps uplink on that server. I'd like to know how can I calculate how many users I could have with those connections. I guess the bitrate should be quite low in order to get a few more "connections"...right? I'm currently reading the FAQs, I haven't found that info...Just in case Please, let me know where can I find more info regarding this... |

Basicly just divide your Upload bandwidth by your (broadcasting) Bitrate and make sure you leave some overheads for other things to access the web on the same connection.
Dont hold your breath on Big numbers either unless you got an industrial connection, normal 256k upload will get about 10/24k streams at most ![]() sometimes its best to pay for hosting services, Stream Hosting is cheep enough though if you shop around. ![]() -=[England's Finest Rock Station - Real Rock Radio At Its Best ]=- |- 24/7 - 64k mp3PRO -|- powerd by: StreamSolutions.Co.Uk -| |
