request tool :hint/packetizer AVI to NSV
I find (unless i am wrong) there does not exist a simple hint/packetizer tool that would allow me to make the best VP3/mp3 encodes I can with my long time favourite VDub ( first more options available for the VP3 codec compared to NSV-GUI, and then lots of excellent filters , etc..) and then turn (the VDub) AVI file to NSV streaming enabled format
in the same simple way , one can hint/packetize , ready then for 'true' rtsp streaming, a regular .MOV file with the QT Player surprising there dos not exist such tool for NSV format ; any specific reason for that ? |

This is a stellar idea. Ken, Slavas .... buds?. Dshow filter?.

ooops Webranger , I did not know I would 'meet' you there
again , I DO like your webtv, site, and the 'elegant' way of doing both ... as for the request for a DShow filter, it is THE answer to lots of things ; indeed |

That would kill a lot of birds with one stone. You'd get a linux encoder, you could use VLC for service and rip DVD's in a heart beat.
I'd do it, but I have a feeling that one of you will beat me to it and do a better job. I'll send a case of beer to the victor. it's possible to create 2 pass encodes.
create 2 profiles 1 for 1st pass with disabled audio(for speed) and codec set for 1rst pass, second profile normal just codec set for second pass. then You can use http://www.stud.ktu.lt/~vitslav/nsv/failai/bla.exe to automate batch making put in there nsvenc with codec resides. rename profile files or change accordingly batch tekst |

thanx , I will try this
still will I have access to all the parameters of the codec ? for instance in VP3 the "lowest allowed quality" index (0/63) is critical for quality and file size ( basically it looks like the quantizers range , and for some unknown reason it is very critical ,say between 55/63 while normally the low range should not be that critical ; traditionally 0/10 quantizers are -first- critical) ; now I may be wrong and these are Matrix values averaging/limiter , not quantizers ...., since the Q range is normally not that extended (0/32 for instance) to sum up, and remind , the VP3 codec provides for: Quick compress / Drop frames /Auto key frame difference threshold / Min#frames between Keys/ and Max# Sharpness (high detail /normal/ smooth) and target data rate (in VDub) now I will try your 2_pass method ; in the end, I (we) still will miss a hint/packetizer tool ; and if it could do muxer as well it would be marvelous

I meant it to be used with vp6*, IIRC there is no 2pass support for vp3

to come back to the hint/packetizer tool ...is it some fast 'hack' or does it really mean a harder work
