Format

Not knowing where to post this, I'd thought I'd start here. I'm trying to give my listeners the ability to utilize Windows Media/Real Player should they not want to install Winamp.
My stream URL is http://digitalphx.com:8000

For my Winamp link I've used http://digitalphx.com:8000/listen.pls

What extension do use for listeners to use other players as listed above.

Your answers are appreciated.

windows media player asx file instructions:

use paste this in notepad:
<asx version="3.0">
<entry>
<ref href="http://IP HERE:8000" />
<title>GIVE THE STREAM A TITLE</title>
<author>NAME YOUR STATION HERE</author>
<copyright>SOMETHING TO DISPLAY HERE</copyright>
</entry>
</asx>

then save as stremtitle.asx
then they can double click and listen on windows media

Most of the time as a broadcaster, you can't "force" a partcuar MP3 player to open because the listener has that control/choice and that is part of their browser config. ie-- On my PC in both FireFox and IE, RealPlayer opens all media types it can handle (almost all of them, btw), then WinAMP, then QuickTime, then lastly (and leastly) Windows Media Player.

Windows Media (.asx) and RealPlayer (.ram) are the only players I know that have player-specific launch files.

ie: listen.ram: (one line plain text)

http://digitalphx.com:8000/

The MIME-type that must be returned by the server it is on for the .ram file should be audio/x-pn-realaudio
