San Andreas Sex Scenes
http://www.forbes.com/business/feeds...ap2130226.html
A media watchdog group on Friday denounced the maker of the hugely popular video game "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" over graphic sexual content that allegedly exists in the game and can be unlocked with an Internet download. The game's plot is already objectionable to many people: Its main character carjacks for fun and profit and picks up women along the way. "While San Andreas is already full of violent behavior and sexual themes, the pornographic sex scenes push it over the edge," said David Walsh, founder of The Minneapolis-based National Institute on the Media and the Family, which issued a "nationwide parental alert" Friday. The controversy has prompted an investigation by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board, which determines the rating on every video game sold. Rockstar Games issued a statement Friday, confirming the investigation and avoiding comment on whether its programmers created the sex scenes in the first place. -- So the PC version has an unlockable secret minigame, where you go into your girlfriend's house for "coffee" which is an interactive sex minigame. Hawt. Rockstar: "We swear we didn't program it, elves did during publishing!" |

i am getting tired of seeing what would be more or less a either breaking news type thread in GD. What's with this? Moved to Games Center as that is more appropriate for this subject.

It's somewhat hilarious that they pick this particular thing to be upset about, given the content of the ENTIRE GAME FROM BEGINNING TO END...just more proof they don't really know anything firsthand about Grand Theft Auto.

in all fairness, they got all upset about killing cops and the violence in general.. its just now they might have some chance at getting it bumped up to an ao(at which point some stores will stop selling it)
of course if that happened, rockstar would just recall the game and release a hot coffee free version, so this whole thing is pointless anyway.. the thing that bothers me though is how they keep saying this is fooling parents.. someone 15 years and older should be able to handle gta, and i doubt many who are younger could get a ride to the store and come up with $50 to buy the game without their parents knowing anything about it, unless someone buys it for the kid or they play it at a friends house, in which case its hardly the games fault as for the game itself, the back of the case has people hanging out the window with guns, a guy with a flame thrower, and the description tells of a guy going home because his mom is murdered and he gets framed for homicide by two crooked cops.. on the front it has a girl licking her lip in a sexual manner and more guys with guns, the mature rating is fairly big and says "blood and gore, intense violence, strong language, strong sexual content, and use of drugs: Mature 17+" and on top of all of this, the game itself is named after a crime.. if that all wasnt enough to tell parents that they shouldn't get this game wasnt designed for children, then how is an ao rating going to help them? that and how they keep saying its training kids to kill.. because we know how shooting someone in real life involves tapping one button to auto aim, another to switch to the target you want, and another to fire the gun, i suppose that after playing that game im perfectly qualified to fly a helicopter and drive a tank i just wish they would bump the sims 2 up to an ao rating not only can you starve people, trap them inside a tiny room with no doors and watch them die, but after you install mods you can take away the blurry and watch people going to the bathroom and taking a shower.. with another mod you can allow children to have sex with adults, and you can make your sims nude all the time with naked skins.. maxis NEEDS to be shut down, their constant crusade to CORRUPT our children must be stopped!! There is no reset button on life... but the graphics kick ass |

RockStar Confirms Hot Coffee Not a Hack
'GTA' Game Rating Changed to Adults-Only Looks like Take Two is recalling copies of the game already produced in order to fix the content in order to retain a M rating, but for now, the millions of copies on the market and in people's homes are Adults Only. jmat |

Actually, this isn't a marketing campaign ... it was a stupid decision on R*'s part for creating the mini-game for the game and not removing it from the game. Since the PC and Xbox versions were just ports of the PS2 version, it is pretty much well known that if the PC version had it, so did the consoles. R* decided to decieve everyone, but they had thought that their mini-game would not be found (as the game needed some heavy modification for the PS2 version of the "mod"). R* screwed up, and now, they are going to be having to pay fines and a whole lot more (like lost money from sales or returns).

i thought they said they wouldn't have to pay fines, its just that they would have to rerate it/edit it out(money lost on stopping the production of current game, going back and re-editing it, and then reproducing it, plus the month or so of lost sales)
and now a bunch of people i know who were waiting to buy it, went out and bought it in fear they wouldn't be able to get it for a few months like someone said, the ironic part is if they had left the mini-game in(the main game), it wouldn't have been that big of a deal(apparently god of war had a much more graphic mini game that no one bitched about) why would anyone return the game over this though? There is no reset button on life... but the graphics kick ass |

I still say it's a rockstar enginnered stunt, do you really think a multi million dollar operation like R* would simply forget they had left code like that in, knowing full well that someone somewhere would likely expose it at some point in the future.
Removed from the shelves it may be, but in all likely hood people are falling over themselves now to get hold of a unrated copy. All publicity, bad or otherwise, is good publicity, look how the sales figures for manhunt went mental after stores in the UK started pulling it off the shelves after it was named in a murder case, I'm not saying this is in any way shape or form in the same league as that, but still the resultant bad publicity for man unt ensured that more units were shifted than normal. |

It should be obvious that this is a publicity stunt by the senators, etc, involved. Including a certain female presidential hopeful.
I'm pretty sure Rockstar doesn't like this that much. |

The row rumbles on...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4717139.stm Why are you guys in the US making such a big deal of it?, I've heard barely a whisper about it in the UK, other than the stories listed above , none of the regular moral crusaders in the UK have taken this up , even though they have always been quick to jump on the GTA bandwaggon in the past. Are the scenes really that explicit?, they don't seem to be from the shots I've seen online? |

Meh, hypocrites all of them. Making a fuss about a display of a completely natural act....
The only game that "shocks" me, or irritates me was a tank simulation some bunch of ignorant (American I think) assholes are making, setting you up as a Serbian tank driver in the "recent" war, killing Bosnians and Croats. Just what a nation that still hasn't grasped the fact that they were the bad guys, and that barely acknowledges, and refuses to apologise for even the most heinous crimes they did (Srebrenica, Vukovar, etc.) needs. This whole fiasco over the Hot Coffee mod is ridiculous.
I bet Rockstar moves a ton of games before they are pulled from shelves. It was really nice of everyone to blow this out of proportion. 99% of the people that have downloaded Hot Coffee wouldn't have even heard of it if it hadn't gotten so much press. Way for all that crap to backfire for Mrs.Clinton. It's not like the sex scenes in GTA are any good anyway. Crappy models. NO GENITALS WHATSOEVER.... Crappy mod. Anyone ever play Singles? That game got an M rating. It's DAMN explicit. The only reason it's not getting attention is because everyone knows about GTA. Singles didn't sell so well in the us. I think I read somewhere that the FBI was starting an investigation. WOW. Don't they have something better to do? What has the world come to. Wait a minute... Let me rephrase. What has the US come to. bleh I think I'll go have some coffee now. Decaf.

I've seen Singles, and it's a lot more explicit than this in terms of sex, you could have the regular male-female sex, AND gay and lesbian sex, and noone minded it. Heck, there's even a Singles 2 now (crappier than the 1st game afaih).

I think the point is that when it was rated, the ratings board wasn't aware of some of the content that shipped with the game that would affect its rating. Silliness in any case.

It's the parents' fucking fault. The game was rated 17A here in Canada. EB Games and other places used to ID whomever bought the game if they looked young enough - Therefore, the people with access to the game that are young enough to worry about having it - PARENTS, IT'S YOUR FUCKING FAULT, STOP THE RIGHTEOUS BITCHING AND LIVE WITH IT.
If your kid is retarded enough to take moral guidance from a video game, you've already failed at life and so has your kid. I'm so tired about parents bitching about this kind of shit - Kids are not as impressionable as tinfoil, and those that are have other serious problems, or are much too young to be playing a 17A rated game. There are bad scenes in life, there's drugs, gangs and violence. To ignore that negative part of culture is to lie to yourself. Plus - It's pixels. I'm sure you'd rather have me go murder 1500 pixels representing Chinese men in armour in Dynasty Warriors 5 than have me go to a crowded street in Shanghai with a glaive. Video games can give stress release. Sometimes it's just more fun to be the bad guy. just as feathery as ever |

The only games I use to play when I was younger were violent ones.
And i'm fine... well for the most part. ![]() And Alida.. there's still gotta be places people under 17 can get any game they want. I know a few retailers over here have that policy, but it's as simple as heading over to Future Shop instead. |

Good lord. These people should take a look at the crime rate in Japan vs. the games/media they have over there.

Here other interesting article>>>
GTA San Andreas, Sex Scenes are too much By Benoît Leterme: 24 Jul 2005, 6:31 pm (GMT+1) As we announced over a month ago, the popular new game from Rockstar: Grand Theft Auto San Andreas has some "SEX SCENES" somewhere hidden in the code. But not that hidden, since it is now well-known amongst gamers. The game, the fourth edition already, has drawn quite some attention. Youngsters love it, elder people want to keep it as far as possible away from their infants. Hi jacking cars, shooting people, running them over with vehicles, 'ho hunting and now recently "SEX/PORN SCENES" have made quite some people eager to get this game off the shelves. And it seems this hidden sex scene was scrapping the barrel a bit too much for Rockstar. Retailers and distributors will follow the requests and will take the game down. read more: http://www.datafuse.net/page.php?news=577 |

Here's the scoop. I have a modded Xbox with a copy of San Andreas on the hard drive. Long story short, I tried the Hot Coffee mod out for myself out of pure curiosity over why this thing was getting so much heat.
To be honest, the Hot Coffee mod is the worst piece of shite I've ever seen in my entire life. I've seen better pornography after accidently hitting the wrong buttons on my remote and seeing two seconds of scrambled Spice channel. If you're desperate enough to interactive sex, you'd be better off putting lipstick on your right hand and calling it a day. |
