I think computers have their place too. I don't think they are a replacement for books yet. Another thing is that I wonder where they will find the content. The web is not known for it's quality content.
I'm sure textbooks manufacturers aren't just going to allow infringing their copyrights. I think you should know how to use a computer adequately before you graduate high school. That doesn't mean that a laptop for every kid is a good idea. This goes a long with my opinion that schools have plenty of money, yet every school district claims they don't. The more money we give them, the more they seem to blow on trivia like this. Nearly everything can be taught with books, a pencil, a textbook and some paper. http://www.fcps.k12.va.us/about/stats.htm The school district linked about is typical and spends $11,000 a student, a year. That's a lot of books, pencils, paper and teachers. The problem is spending money on trivia and not the above. |
