Dead files
I have a lot of dead entries because I have renamed the folder in which the mp3s were before.
If I go to Rightklickmenu/ Remove... / Remove all dead files a window pop up with: _________________________________________ Removing files that do not exist... Scanned 6641 (0 removed) Cleaning up... Cancel _________________________________________ Then the window disapears and the dead files aren't removed. My system: Winamp v5.094 WinXPSP1 Kerio Personal Firewall AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic |

confirmed!
confirmed for Winamp 5.094
confirmed for Winamp 5.24 To me this seems to be a bug. dead files aren't removed. Since all V5 versions I hoped it was fixed, but today's changing from 5.094 to 5.24 shows, it's not. Can anyone confirm/disconfirm this?! Library / Remove missing files from media library shows the same effect - "(0 removed)" - although there still are media lib entries where file info says "no file". Win XP SP 2 Regards, Robert |

Works fine for me, always has (with 5.0x, 5.24 and also with latest 5.25 public beta). I just tested it by renaming a few files, doing "media library > library button > remove missing files", and it successfully detected and removed them.
Sounds to me like your media library database is corrupt or something. Maybe try wiping it and reimporting everything. |

Well, I deleted all files in the lib, then rescanned,
renamed 1 file which is in the lib, "library button > remove missing files" -> 0 files removed. The file is still listed in the lib. Something is wrong in winamp's code - user with the user?? Is there any other part where the lib contents is stored so that deleting all files from the lib isn't enough to cure the lib? Any ideas? Thanks, Rob |

The official ways to do it are:
Prefs > Media Library > Local Media > Options tab > Clear Media Library or Media Library window > Local Media > select all in right pane (ctrl+a) > Del The unofficial way to do it is to close Winamp, go to the Winamp\Plugins\ml folder and delete main.dat and main.idx |

I did it this way:

Thanks a lot! Seems, it was necessary to reconstruct the empty lib by the internal action in that function. BTW, wouldn't it be nice to have the same menu item name for the same function in { Library button > "remove *missing* ..." } and { right click on a file in the lib > "remove all *dead* files" } - or is there really a diffence in that 2 menu items? And I add one: How about having a similar user interface for the remove actions - in media lib as well as in play list? I mean, to remove physically in the playlist, I have to press that button "Rem" on the bottom instead of having also a right click menu item "remove ..." with a submenu. Greets, Robert |
