If anyone here is into DARK music, then check this site.
I'm a huge fan of dark/melancholic and sometimes downright depressive music. I am also in a band that is melancholic and melodic as well (www.daylightdies.com). Yet I have never found a "ground zero" on the internet for exploring this type of music. Since I've been into basically all genres that can hit the right downer nerve in me for over a decade, I had many friends urging me to start some sort of site where I focus in on a song a every day or so and post an mp3.
I figured the best format was an mp3 blog. So I've started a "dark music mp3 blog" called Dark Dose. I got it off the ground in late June and the response from the few who've visited it so far as being overwhelmingly positive. I'd like to invite every soul out there who is curious about this to visit the site, download an mp3 or three and most of all join the discussion by posting comments on what they think. DARK DOSE -- dark music mp3 blog: http://www.darkdose.com Thanks! |

Spamming's punishable by having your foot tickled with an ostrich feather (read the disclaimer), but I looked at your www. anyhow.
"There are numerous songs I wish to post about knowing that I must reference the legendary British shoegaze band Slowdive. I take for granted that everyone into dark music, specifically dark and dreamy music holds the three albums Slowdive released as absolutely sacred. But the fact is the band broke up many years ago and despite being named as a major influence to hundreds of bands, new comers may have never actually heard any of their magical songs." Slowdive are one of those blueprint bands, I've heard 100 albums that owe their existance to "Souvlaki". If Curve/Cuckoo & Stereolab/Transient-Random weren't released in '93, it'd have been album of the year hands-down. It's a shame their existence was so brief.

Slowdive completely passed me by.
/Half tempted to check them out, half afraid it'll be as much of a letdown as Curve. (And the best album of 93 is Orbital (the brown album)) |

The Brown Album? I must check that out, my Orbital collection's a bit on the lean side (stops and starts with the Green Album).
![]() I doubt if it'll measure up to the monolith that is Souvlaki. |

I have posted a couple other times in other forums so I didn't think my post was entirely spam. I tried to pick the most appropriate forum for giving the site a little promo. I'm as sensitive as the next guy when it comes to spam, just thought the "Music O'Rama" forum on the WinAmp site would contain the demographic of those interested in checking out new music for free. Not like I'm selling anything. :-).
Anyways, glad you checked the site out. And Slowdive is incredible. You must get "Just for a Day".. you will not regret it. |

"Just For a Day" is most excellent, it was slated at the time, at the whim of the NME heirarchy.
![]() There's a theory, people who prefer "Just For A Day" over "Souvlaki" prefer "Loveless" over "Isn't Anything" and "Spooky" over "Split". Yes, I'm talking bollox.

Hmm, I prefer Loveless over Isn't Anything (and Gala over Spooky and Split).
