Broadcast Service?
Hi. I'm a newbie and wondering about putting up a broadcast. Does Shoutcast offer a broadcast service for users to set it all up for me? Meaning some server space and bandwidth so I wouldn't have to try and do it all myself? For one, I'm not sure I have the skill, and secondly if I base the radio station where I'm at right now, I would have to pay huge amounts of money to NCB, our national 'broadcastlicense-bandits'. Naturally I'm trying to avoid all that.
Thanks for all your info in advance. |

No shoutcast is only providing the means to setup an internet radio stream
see www.shoutcast.com downloads. with the guides that you can find in the FAQ thread in the tech support part of this shoutcast forum you can setup your own stream , it's not that hard. if you don't want to go through the trouble - you still need the dsp plug but the server part is taken care of if you click the link in the post below [thanks Nick, for the link ]

Hello everyone I have a couple of questions.
1. I used Yahoo Site Builder to create my website. Is there something I can use to show a "now playing" and a "previously played" list that automatically updates without me having to go in and change it myself every 5 minutes? I have no idea how php works. I tried a couple of things I saw in some of the other posts but they didn't work for me. 2. I am also unsure about the bandwith. Currently I'm using Comcast High speed internet and I am broadcasting to shoutcast servers at 128 kbps/44,100 kHz (stereo). I see some of the other stations have like 100 ga-billion listeners. My question is how can I braodcast to more than 8 listeners? And where do I find my upload speed? and once I find it how can I raise it if it's low? 3. Is there any (free)or extremely cheap software that will allow me to set up an hourly playlist and that will still allow me to broadcast live? I know this is a lot of question I do appologize but if anyone can offer any help I would really appreciate it. Dallas |

Pay a stream hosting provider, get a dedicated server or call the phone company and have them drop you a T1 right to your location. 3. There are several automation programs out there but as far as cheap or free, no. Megarock Radio - St. Louis Since 1998! Don't click this link! Corporate Radio Sucks! No suits, all rock! |

I wouldn't use a T1 =) since typically they are slower than most cable lines. Perhaps a DS3 or OC3, although that'll cost thoudands per month.

Hey thanks guys I appreciate your help. I see there is no inexpensive way around being broadcaster. I have many complaints from people trying to listen but getting kicked off or the reception is poor. So in your opinion I should drop Comcast and pick up another? Is that what I am getting?

If that's happening you're likely maxing out your upload bandwidth. Easiest thing to do is get a stream host provider. That way you send one single stream out to their servers and they distribute it out. That's about the easiest and most reliable way to stream. If you only expect a handful of listeners then it should be cheap then just add capacity as you grow.

you still need to make sure that you can sustain a nice clean feed to a streamhost
so dont by a 128k server if you only have a 128k upstream or you will hit problems again, if you just want to upload your music and have it play 24/7 with no pc needed to upload then check out the 24/7 link below
