Network Shoutcast
Hi,
Before I start, just to let you know that even though this is my first post, I do know about the basics of shoutcasting, setting up a server, (although I haven't yet dabbled with configuring it properly yet), so I am not a (complete) newbie! I'm trying to convince the head of IT at my college (a bit of a bastard sometimes) to stream the college radio station over the network. I know that Shoutcast will work (I've done other server-based Winamp plugins before, such as one which I can't remember off hand what it's called but it allows us to control the winamp on the studio computer through IE on an office computer), and have already used the arguement that it's free, that I can set it up on the studio computer if need be, but want to figure out how much bandwidth it's likely to take up. Maths has never been by strong point... Which is where you people come into it! What would you reccomend would be the best bit rate to stream through (all the listeners will be listening through headphones), and given that I am not really expecting more than 40 listeners at a time (50 max), how much bandwidth will this probably take up? Sorry - quite a long and boring post, sorry to take up your time... ... but I hope somebody will be able to help (hopefully by giving me the answer on a plate as I'm a lazy bastard, but I'll settle for a link to somewhere that will give me a few simple answers...) Thanks, Richie G |
