new to shoutcast

i'm new to this and i'd like to kinda find out about some stuff before going into a mess to setup a radio

bassicaly i have a server that i have rented (from a company) will i be able to install shoutcast on it with only having ftp access to the server or wil i HAVE to be able to be at the server to set it up,

is there any special doodads or whatnot that has to happen for it to work?
