Winamp 5.1
So in all the years I have been using Winamp, it has not once totally pissed me off before. If it wasnt for the fact that every other player out there has a horrid interface or uses WAY too many resources, this would be a switch story. 5.1 defaulted all my cd ripping prefrences, not only that but it uses a default playlist, not the users current one. Luckilly I was somehow clairvoient enough to for tyhe first time make a save of my current playlist before I upgraded so I didnt loose the list I currently like. I dont save my playlist very often, I dont need to I dont change it every other minute or even every week, maybe I change it once in a year, I will add new albums to the list, but 9 out of 10 times I will not go and creat a whole new list.
I am very dissapointed in the fact that the settings are not saved version to version now appearantly. I am also dissapointed that you think that every user uses a diffrent playlist for diffrent times and has them all saved so it is easy for them to just change it back from what you decided would be a good song to hear, when I am sure I personally would have hated it if I had botherd to not be pissed and changed the list right back to what ***I*** wanted not what you the developers think I would like to hear. I dont download the plain full version(which I know is avalible and I am not to disclose how to get it) in order to get some crackpot crappy secular new artist in my playlist. |

That feature was specific to v5.1 only, so it could play the demo.aac and surroundmusic project winner. It won't happen in any future release... as discussed in detail and on numerous occasions in the 5.1 sticky thread.
However, I can't reproduce your issue with the cd ripping prefs |

the playlist replacement shouldn't happen in future versions. basically it was part of the 5.1 promo stuff and yes it's annoying. ideally it should have been done so that it added the entries to the end of the playlist if there already was one but alas it's happened now so not much can be done until the next version is released.
as for the cd-ripping preferences not being saved, i've not seen that before though it is sometimes possible for things in winamp.ini to become corrupted and for it to revert back to it's defaults. -daz |

im surprised people even use a playlist as a static copy of their media in this day and age with the addition of the library. playlist was never really meant to be a store of all your tracks. What do you do when you accidentally click on something winamp can play?

but thats what i dont understand. I mean, with the library, you essentially get that, plus the ability to quickly search through it, or casually browse through it at your will.
but meh, whatever. |

For my part, I just play music randomly, in a big playlist, and when I want a specific title, i just press J, a few letters, and then RETURN. |

how is the playlist any different?
i can type a few letters and play return. I dont see any difference there at all. And if metadata isnt there for the library, it isnt there for the playlist either. |

2. i use "enqueue as default action" and also enqueue on doubleclick in the media library 3. i use "shuffle" frequently... ML doesnt do that 4. my playlist doesn't store all of my tracks. if it was, the loss wouldn't be so dramatic 5. I WANT THE 70 MINUTES IT TOOK ME TO RESTORE MY PLAYLIST BACK If you can't say something nice, say something surrealistic. |
