Anyone like DIre Straits?

Woah. I tried playing some of their songs on guitar the other day and let me tell you it did not go well. I've listened to them on and off for about a year now but only recently really got into them. Just wow. This is some incredible music.

Never underestimate the bandwidth of a station wagon full of tapes hurtling down the highway.

They're one of those mainstream bands to be avoided, I recall a farmer down the road was big on them in '85 (he also liked Genesis). Seeing him with a bottle of bud, dancing to "Walk of Life" was something that rivals any scene from the Evil Dead.

Saying that, tracks like "Money For Nothing" are irritatingly good.

Compared to bands like Foreigner or Toto they're much more tolerable, but still extremely boring.

If you want musical talent and skill listen to Steely Dan.

Glad to see I'm not the only who likes "Money For Nothing" but despises everything else they've done

DS is indeed a mainstream band with incredibly annoying guitar virtuosity.
Sometimes, I understand why PSB wrote a song called "How I Learned To Hate Rock'N'Roll".

Making Movies... one of the best albums from Dire Straits. Both Mark and David Knopfler also have solo careers.

I own almost every CD Dire Straits released (I don't own Alchemy) and I think Mark Knopfler ranks up there with Dave Gilmour as one of the best guitar players around. He has a great and unmistakable style...

Favorite songs for me:
Sultans of Swing
Telegraph Road
Romeo and Juliet
Skateaway

Yes, I do. Favourite song by them is "Sultans of Swing", but the rest of their stuff is pretty good too.

The best thing about Money for Nothing is that nobody, including Knopfler himself, knows how he made the riff at the beginning sound like that.

Makes me wonder under the influence of which substance he made it.

Since it was the 80s probably cocaine.

His nostrils are certainly large enough (or was that his Spitting Image puppet)?

I enjoyed them at Live Aid, now of course I'm thoroughly ashamed for doing so. It'd be nice to see Matt Johnson do a remdition with his xylophones.

If you're reading this, Matt.....?
