I said that I saw Air Force One on IRC and in the shoutbox of a particular other set of forums, and in both places, people asked me if I shot at it / blew it up with my rocket launcher.

Regardless of who the president is, the plane itself is still a remarkable piece of engineering and a symbol of power, imo.

Wouldn't this be perfect for a caption contest?

I got this picture Friday just after lunch time. The C-5 had just landed and taxied to that spot about fifteen minutes prior to that shot. The Delta Connections flight that's taxiing in front of it is a Bombardier RJ-200, I believe. If you took the wings off of it, you could roll it up into that C-5.

I also got this picture Friday as well. I thought it was neat. I have a couple more pictures of that C-130j if anyone wants to see them, too. It was flying around for a couple hours doing touch-and-gos, so I got a couple pictures of it landing.

I've never taken any pictures of an F-22 personally, no. I have pictures of them, though.

Here's a couple more pictures of that C-130j.

And here's a closer picture of that RJ-200.

Superb! I like how you can see the smoke coming from the tires of that Hercules and the hot air coming out of the engine on the RJ-200.

There must be a lot of activity on the airfield there, if you can shoot such pictures almost every day.

It depends. The military air traffic varies from day to day, but the commercial air traffic is pretty constant. Here's the current flight schedule for the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport. As you can see, it's not a big airport, but the flights are pretty concise.

And today, I managed to get a BUNCH of pictures. Here's a few of the better ones. I'll start with the small ones...

Here is an AirTran Boeing 717 just before landing.

This shot is of a Continental Embraer RJ-145 with a Delta Bombardier RJ-200 behind it on the taxiway.

And now, for the highlight of the day...

This is the C-5 Galaxy that landed here on Friday.

A slightly closer shot of it taxiing towards the end of the runway.

D'oh!

Beginning to turn onto the runway.

Back that ass up... No wait! Don't! :P

Step on it.

And finally...

Yes, it was too big to fit into one picture, so I had to take FOUR. (5.87MB, sorry for the shitty image splicing)

Still haven't gotten that camera but I can sit at the end of our runway. I'd better buy it fast because ski season ends in 3 weeks at which time the big boys quit the big planes in and out to DFW.

Those mountains were all white 2 weeks ago but spring has indeed sprung.
Gunnison, Colorado

I opted for the Kodak C330.
Cheap and since I worked there back in the day, I still feel loyalty, even though it was made in China like everything else around us.
For high quality shots, I still use my tried and true SLR.
Old skool baby!

This is an MD-11. I know, it looks exactly like the DC-10 that I posted on the second page of this thread, but this one isn't actually a DC-10. The only real distinguishing features are the winglets on the tips of the main wings and the bulge around the intake of the top engine. I believe some of the later DC-10s had the bulge in the top engine nacelle, but I'm not entirely sure. But I'm pretty sure that those two features together are a sign that it's an MD-11 rather than a DC-10. I don't think the winglets were introduced until after the DC-10 had finished production.

Airbus A310?

It's a daily flight to/from Denver. United runs a turboprop twice a day as well that boogies ass down the runway and pulls up into a steep ascent.

Our airport used to fly twin-turboprop planes a few years ago. They finally phased them all out and went strictly jet. I have some more pictures that I took earlier today, and I'll post them in a little bit once I upload them.

Ok, here are the pictures I promised. I got all of these today:

The first and third pictures are of a C-130j. There were three of them doing touch-and-gos for a few hours at the airport today. The reason why they're the first and third shots is because they had to make room for the Northwest DC-9 in the second shot. When that DC-9 came in, the C-130s extended their flightpaths out farther so that they could squeese 'em in.

The fourth picture is of the new AirTran 717 that I've been trying to get pictures of for a while now. It's always here when I'm not. :P I was lucky enough to be at the equipment yard when it taxied out today, though. I like the paint scheme on their new planes. Looks much better than the older ones.

I think it's a very sleek looking jet.

I'm not sure what kinds of planes are in the last two pictures. I took that first vaportrail shot just before I came home, and I took the last one just after I got home. They look very similar... But that's a pretty common shape. Those are both at 100% magnification, btw.

Yeah, I just looked that one up on the Airbus website. That is an A320... I thought it was an A310 at first too because I thought that their numbering scheme gave larger numbers to the larger planes.

I guess it's not all that uncommon. After all, a Boeing 747 is bigger than a 757. I don't know much about Airbus anyways, so I won't act like I do. :P

Sarge, that's the base of "W" mountain on the right (the snow's almost off the W and I'll get a shot of it soon). When American Airlines is on approach in the afternoon, they fly around the south side of it and do a left 180 around it to access the runway.

Airbus:

A300: first one, pretty short wide body.
A310: second even a little bit shorter wide body.
A320: narrow body, similar to 737. Variations: A318, 319, 321 (similar to 757).
A330: large wide body, similar to 777, two engines.
A340: similar to A330, a little bit shorter, four engines, mainly for trans pacific flights.
A380: known, I think.

The numbers are chronologic, as with Boeing, but the 318, 319 and 321 numbers are based on size and were added later.

I think Continental Airlines probably financed their fleet of planes through Wells Fargo or something. I'm not sure.

And about the 524... I'm not entirely sure about that, either. The number subsets are probably to designate updates and minor redesigns within a particular model. Kinda like software application versions (Winamp for example: 5.08, 5.13, 5.21, etc).
