Bandwidth question
If no one is connected to my stream, am I using up bandwidth?
And if bandwidth isn't used where exactly is this bandwidth going? I'm asking because in the SHOUTCAST source, the Status area of the Output tab looks like it's sending out data. Thanks for your help. |

The DSP is always sending information to the server, even if there are no listeners. The DSP doesn't know or even care if there is any listeners connected to the server.

Yes. Unless the DSP and the DNAS are on the same system.

No bandwidth will be used if you are streaming from the shoutcast winamp plugin to a shoutcast server (DNAS) hosted on your own system and no listeners are connected.
If you are streaming to a remotely hosted server from a stream host, then you will use the bandwidth of a single stream for as long as you are connected (Usually very little). |

So in other words if the stream is relayed it's using bandwidth. If it just your Shoutcast then no bandwidth is used. Gotcha!
I ask cause there's a LOT of parcels in "Second Life" that tap into Club 977's stream (as well as others) to their virtual malls and stores. Additionally many dance clubs use Club 977 and other steams once their live DJs go off the air. Thanks for the 411 Wavestreaming. |
