After downloading the latest version of "winamp" (first download on h.d., no other versions of winamp on the drive), when it plays an inserted cd, there is no sound! I have checked all my settings; (multimedia, volumn, etc) all seems normal, but still there is no sound from the inserted cd. Your helpl is apprecited.

I've noticed this before too on a computer I was using. It was a Win2k machine (I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not). I believe it had something to do with the soundcard it was using, but I'm not sure about that either. Try going into the System control panel and in Device Manager and finding the CD drive and if it has a Digital Audio Extraction (or something similar) checkbox try checking it or unchecking it, depending on what it's currently set to.

if you're sure that the volume sliders are up and they're not muted, the most likely problem is a missing cd audio cable. there should be a cable running from your cd-rom drive to your sound card. if there isn't one, go buy one and install it. (they cost $5 at the most.)
