Clarity - coder appreciated!

Hello there!

I used to frequent this forum back in the days when the WA3 alpha came out, and just recently registered again to give skin designing a try! This skin, with the working title Clarity, would be my first skin...if I manage to complete it.

Im not exactly finished yet but I would really like to get some input and ideas from you guys, and since I know very little XML i figured i might try to get somebody to assist me on that part. If not i guess i'll have to go thru some tutorials and learn it bit by bit myself!

Oh well, here's a screenshot!

Very nice. I just have two suggestions. First, the blur on the border is a bit heavy. Second, it would be very nice if the buttons had a ring that glowed around them on hover (look at MMD3 (I think) if you don't understand what I mean)

I think if it were me i would integrate the EQ as a tab/fading layer inside the LCD on the main skin. I think it would work better on a skin like this. Just my opinion though.

thanks! very good suggestions, ive made some changes based on them and i'll post a screenshot later.

yeah it could be pretty cool if the eq faded in on the display of the main player instead, i'll consider that approach.

i reckon the insets are too bright compared to the main body, might look better if you darkened them

Dont worry about the volume, theres a nice pre-written maki code floating about the forums with that on. And the EQ in the main window is really simple to do too. Good luck with it!

looking good, but the dark frame lacks a lot of detail compared to the display. maybe you could add something just for eye candy

as much as I love a clean and minimalistic layout, i kinda see your point. tried putting the more or less "standard speaker dots" up there but it didnt really do it for me. if you have an idea on what to put there, please tell or even show!

Some sexy 'tech' lines going around the buttons, knobs, and display would look good

Just start drawing lines and go to Filters>Distort>Sphereize in Photoshop.

Or you could add some separation or 'bevel' lines maybe

Just one thing i wanted to check, all your files are greyscale images right? Otherwise colourthemes dont work so well...

On the contrary, greyscale images render the gray="0|1|2" gammagroup param completely useless.

Colour sources offer a lot more options.

Fuck this place.

color theming works just fine with colored elements, there's no need to make them all greyscale.
